On that subject, just been speaking to a chap (Scott... Alan in the shed) and he was fairly sure that they're all prone for gunge in the dipstick tube, heat of the engine vs cold metal and thus said...
Hello sir...
Been dipping in and out of this thread for the past couple of months but just felt the urge to say that the information contained within is excellent and has helped me no end with...
I've got boggo standard motor factor supplied Delphi discs and pads all round on mine and it's fine... cope well with a bit abuse too though it has got 302's up front. I did manage to cook the rears...
They said they wanted it for a piece in the next series and given I really didn't want to sell it (ironically the reason to get rid was she was driving it daily and had marked the bumper and kerbed a...
I owned this for a while, may or may not be on the list... however it was last seen with a broken rear axle somewhere near the source of the Nile. Probably safe to say it's long dead and buried now....
When I say "Autopaint" I mean as in a little paint supplier locally (Thornton, Fife) not sure if you chaps are referring to the same place or if our wires are crossed? With regards to alternative...
Cheers squire, going to nip into Autopaint today and see what they have / can supply then drop the tailgate off at a painter this week as a bit of a tester... if it's a success, I'll get the wings...
Thanks guys.
The paint supplier is proper old school trade based, the sort of place where the three boys have a combined age of 326 and all wear brown dust coats.
I'm not looking for long...
That's answered one of my questions... couple of painters were making noises about using clear coat whereas one said it was old school with no lacquer.
None of them were that enthrawled about...
Gents...
I know there a couple of talented individuals who have painted Gul 850s previously and seem rather spot on when it comes to bodywork... so, given mine currently sports the Volvo stage...
But again, these would only suit 850's with the smaller diameter cable ends.
I've temporarily bodged mine with some off cuts of rubber jammed in the voids and glued in place... it'll help matters...
Pretty much tallies with the MR2 related post above.
On that basis, these (629-2RS) should in theory suit cars with P2 / bigger cables...
...
Also found this (yes, busy day at work..) which is discussing the bushes / bearings for an MR2 which has the same size cables as the 850...
I was looking into these bushings for replacements of...
That's the fella...
Also found this on the MR2 forums, quite handy:

I'd be inclined to agree... they are 9 x 26 x 8 so are much nearer the size of the cable ends.
That said, I'd need to remove the rubber bush and measure the internal diameter of the ring on the...
What are the external diameters of each of these bushes and also the internal diameters?
Yup, that's what I have... and as far as I know, that's what the kit contains however I could be very much mistaken. Though Christ knows how your man on T5D5 managed to use them in that case?
I'm...
Ok, I'm now confused.
If you read the link near the top, a chap fits the bearing kit ro an 850. The bearings are 606RS which have an internal diameter of 6mm.
Anybody bought the eBay kit and...
I assume, based on what has been discovered and posted above that 850 boxes (M56 and M59) have the smaller, 6mm spindles?
Mine doesn't. Mine has spindles nearer 9mm (I'll check with the calipers...
Can any 850 owner measure the spindles on the box to confirm?
The bearings in the kits have an internal diameter of 6mm, the spindles on my gearbox are nearer 9mm and this is the same as a 1998...
Re. the above, no problem at all... they're no use to me.
Maybe best check the dimensions on your gearbox first... just in case!
Christ knows what box is in mine now... going on what Yosser...
Having no give in the bushes won't have any adverse effect on the gearbox.
To update my saga, it would appear the gearbox on mine has been changed to a later model and thus, it has the oversize...
Thanks guys... however, whilst I know there are several variations available be it bearings or turned brass bushes, the issue I have is my gear cables are much bigger.
The 606-2RS bearings as...
Actually, just found this...
http://forums.t5d5.org/topic/11240-non-wearing-gear-linkage-bushes/
This guy has used 606RS bearings too but my cable ends are way bigger than that... they're...
Gents,
I tried to be a smart arse and order a couple of bearings to replace the now defunct ends on the selector cables. I went online, did some research and decided I needed a couple of 606-2RS...
