That interior is in better nick than mine - jealous!
I now have a M59 to replace my old M59 which is getting noisy. The question is this. The replacement is an M59 from a V70R, my existing car is an 850R. One has an external clutch slave, the later,...
Pulled out of a junction last night turning right, and there were two little 'lurches' from the drivetrain. And afterwards a mechanical rumbling whirring noise. My hunch is an M59 viscous coupling...
Still alive and kicking! And yes, as soon as I have a new pair of tyres on the front Volans, the Titans at the front will be coming off...!

IPD ARB work very well for me...
This is bound to mean mine will never work again, but in the R my aircopn continues to work just fine. I have had the local mobile aircon service people come out twice. Once to fix the aircon...
Well, that's easy then...not!

Awwww... :(
New alternator now supplied by Gav (Merc85) and needing fitting - really helpful and good value too. The battery had a dead cell, incredibly I still had the receipt for it (three and a half years...
Thanks Gav,
I've sent you a reply. Give me a call around Noon (number on PM) if you can, and we'll go with that. Sounds a fair deal.
Cheers,
Phil.
It doesn't sound a bad price with the warranty - but I think the fit would drive me mad with that awkward bolt. What sort of time do you reckon I should allow for the job? Not sure if I should...
Rufe wants £248.13 for an alternator delivered with exchange as £65 surcharge. Another company are saying £125 + exchange with 18 month warranty. Another new item from someone else, £116 delivered...
I think I will get someone to do it - I'm just too busy at the moment. I will give Simon a ring - although I have a feeling that if Volvo can charge £45 for a driveshaft gaiter, that an alternator...
Thanks James,
Well, things are changing a bit shall we say, but family is OK. Oh the thought of a bolt like that is enough for me to get someone else to do it...! Arghhhh!
Part number is 9162683 not as above
That's really helpful. If I can get an easy local sort out I will, but PM me with a price - I'm sure it will be a good one. And I'm OK to pay carriage - it shouldn't be too horrendous. But as I...
Thanks Martin,
Yes, I'm preoccupied with other stuff at the moment sadly, so the R is being maintained rather than cosseted, but I still love it...
Yes, disconnecting battery a very good idea...
Ironically I was up near Harwich the other day - but am car-less at the moment so short of cycling, I may be looking at postage!
Aside from...
The alternator is smoking on my 850R! So it probably needs replacing at a wild guess. Staggeringly, a Bosch replacement on Ebay seems to run at around £500!!!
So what are the replacement options? ...
Cheers Craig - Oh it's a pain in the rear end.
Thanks Craig, Suddenly lots of those 100,000 mile jobs cropping up...it's getting expensive at the moment :(
Assuming that Rufe is probably the first port of call, or any other recommendations?
Clutch is getting thin - does anyone have a recommendation? It's a little mapped but not massively so - I drive it quite hard. I think the R has a heavier duty spec than a standard non turbo...
That sounds worth a shot. But since rain is back, it won't happen for a few days :(
Silly question - but how much stuff do you need to take out to get at them?
The R has, for a year or so had an intermittent problem where for no particular reason, the ABS pump starts rapidly pumping and the pedal goes hard until I push down on it (oh that sounds rude). Now...
