It's got now't to do with me but I quite like Betsy.
It is not just a single issue or I would agree changing the car just for coilovers is a pointless exercise. I think it is taken as read that the engine will be fixed regardless. It is too expensive to redevelop a different engine for a 3rd time.Quote:

Arches have not been rolled - which is why I have issues with Betsy not least on the bumper fit and rust.
Rust on Betsy's A-Pillar on can only be sorted by putting in a new windscreen vs. the cosmetic rust on the black bonnet, far easier to do.
ETM - already been "fixed" but needs calibrating - which means losing the current map on Betsy.
SBS is working properly AFAIK
Possible Later loom model year (TBC)
Interior
Exterior - Cosmetics I like the black one for the colour - it has a sunroof and I like the alloys.
I'd be able to sell some bits like wheels, engine. gearbox and spares to cover the costs or to retain as spare stock going fwd.
Luck?
Politically it would look like I was changing to a new project car?
Reasons for staying with the SSB - most of which are time constraints
Loss of map - remapping the new ECU.
Loss of money on the repaired ETM.
New car paint will need mopping out to my own standard.
Swapping the ICE inc. Hands Free, antenna downswitch
Swapping the HIDs ?
Swapping the fixed engine and other up-rated parts - ARBs, exhaust, Blitz SBC, DW300 Fuel pump.
Having invested in refreshing the VVT on the new engine - I don't really want to junk the ME7 - plus I am a stubborn old git and still think I can make it work.
seb has a really nice 2002 model supposed to be the tits
Retrieved from the depths of the project board I felt it was about time we had a catch-up on what is now more commonly known as the silver sh_1tbox (SSB).
Headbolts from the build last year stretched and let water into all 5 cylinders, as James Clancy will testify (as he disappeared in the cloud of steamy smoke at Avon)
Visually the bottom half looked OK when I visited it in early December.
Not a great deal to say - the new bolts had to come from over the pond and took a while to arrive.

Finally the bolts arrived (23rd Dec) and reassembly started this week at HLM

I have also bitten the bullet and bought the BC coilovers - even though I think the ride will be somewhat harsher than the Bilsteins/Eibach combo.
After that I am looking to get some proper ME7 data logging. I am sort of committed in my own mind to keep the SSB and park the notion of swapping out to a different C70 for now. You never know I might even make it into winter 2015 in 1 piece? The quest to beat 13.3 continues....
You won't regret the BCs mate, and good luck with the rest of the rebuild
Nice to see an update Dave,
Speedy swede award next year?
Only if the award runs Feb>> August LOL
Personally I think SSB is a misnomer - surely FANY (Fix Again Next Year) or Lotus (Lots of Trouble usually serious) is more suitable? And yes I did plagiarize TG for the latter.
I think after all the money I have spent/will continue to spend I deserve a bit of luck this year.
Well if u dont do it this year u can borrow my turbo next year dave good luck tho ;)
Great to see some progress mate, once the heads back on and you get some logging/mapping done the full potential will be released, I'll see you at the strip but not until the summer for me as I have a good bit of work to do on mine.
Glad to see you haven't given up on it mate, must get around to sorting mine.
Spent some more time on the rebuild today. Sorted out the timing - CVVT was off and I had about 5 attempts getting it to line up properly. I swear I was about to set fire to it. Sadly because (as some of you may know) my mum is terminally ill so on top of a hectic home life there has been even less time to dedicate to the rebuild. I hope to make York but that may be all I get this year.
So anyway on the final attempt I tweaked the exhaust sprocket to take out the slack between the inlet sprocket and the belt so it fitted exactly. Span it round a few times and got it to come back onto the marks. YAY! - What a PITA.I have the exhaust manifold and turbo to refit then a few other bits but then we should be able to fire her up.
Anyway she has been there long enough now that she's acquired stickers!

Sorry to hear about your Mum mate, not good at all. When we had the exhaust VVT unit replaced on the R the indie had trouble getting it right.
glad to see your sticking with it.
sorry to hear about your mum
Glad to see your are sticking with it, if you want my datalogger I'll need a copy of the original file, before whoever tuned it, so I can make the definition.
Tuned files work but I don't want or need them as it can alienate the tuner.
You'll have to let me know for sure as I was thinking about removing it from sale after April as there has been zero sales.
Best of luck matey.
The guy in Sweden has wrapped up his tuning business so the ability to change the original file is extremely limited or unlikely. I just want a viable alternative to Torque which despite investment in an expensive ODBII Bluetooth interface. No-one else is likely to invest in developing the relevant software for such an old car.
I thought it was mapped @ HLM? If so they are the tuner and have wholesaled it? At least that's how I think it would normally work?
Torque has it's place for sure but is limited and fairly slow.
Assuming the above is true then I'd really want something from HLM to say that they're happy having the car read, if it wasn't HLM then I guess it's up-to you.
I just don't want to step on anyone's toes. Plus there may be failsafes (copy protection) built-in to the ECU software by the tuner that may cause issues if it's read out, I have some custom written assembler code that causes chaos (in my development stage 4 map on my car) when readout/copied, for example. That part is unlikely though.
Sorry to hear about your mum Dave. With your family I'm suprised you have done anything.
Hope things work out & you get to put the poops up woody.
Sorry woody. Lol
The custom 19T map (the 4th custom map I had for that turbo) was put onto the car by Hamish but the file came from a Swedish tuner and certainly I got the best result out of the 4 that I tried - including RICA.
I cannot seek any further improvements as much as I would have liked to with that guy - because he sold up and is doing work for Chrysler or Ford or Polestar or something really big and expensive. There was talk way back when about data logger etc but nothing ever came of it. Given that the person who wrote the file is not involved or contactable anymore & this is a non-transferable map as it was unique to my setup at the time, I think it is fairly safe to assume I can do as I please.
The map is at least 6 years old. To be honest it is probably time to draw a line under it and look to a new file (or build on the top of this one??) - but without the data logger I am running a bit blind. I've been talking to Shemtek over the last couple of days & maybe we can do some work in redeveloping the dp/turbine housing collector, but before I trot off down that route I really need to get a better picture of what is going on.
Keep up the good work dave will be good to see it at York again and while your not running it I can look after that nice turbo of your s
