850 R Estate - Pink Pus
Well, today I had a 'special delivery'. Yes a pink 850 R! Happy days.
Now, I heard of this car through eBay, someone messaged me offering it after I asked a question about an item they had listed, I was very surprised!
It has zero history with 206k on the clocks, battery's flat so have no idea how it runs although I'm told it was driven 2 months ago from Birmingham to Ludlow.
MOT expired Nov 2013. Owner died 6 months ago so the family is selling up his collection of Volvo stuff, they were just going to scrap this car!
Apparently he had 2 more in the Birmingham area but the Son in law (who I've dealt with) is yet to see them so once/if I find out more I'll let people know.
Anyway, the car. Not in bad shape considering it's recently few years.
Anybody know more of the car?

From those above photos the paint doesn't look too bad but trust me, it's as flat as a flat thing!

Got a boot full of pound shop tat thrown in for free :)
Plans? Well I'm not sure currently, I bought it as it's fate was with a date with the crusher so had to do something about that.
Got to get it running first and see if it is worth saving I guess...

Result if the price was right :), with your polishing I'm sure it will be red again
-
You're a dark horse, you!
Looks in good condition really, after a good spit and polish it'll look great, I'm sure :)
If you need any help getting it running and I have some time, I'd be glad to help out. For the greater good and all ;)

Oh it was a price I was happy with so that's in its favour, the guy even delivered it himself on the ropiest trailer I've ever seen, it fell through when he drove it on lol so he had to repair the trailer first :P
There are only 2 dents on the car but both would need proper attention to remove; bottom of driver's door and passenger rear quarter by the lights. Also the front splitter is cracked.
But, overall the paint appears good albeit very faded, that'll clean up though. :D
Thank you for that offer Steve, most kind, I'm guessing with a fresh battery on it though it'll start fine, will have to see.
Sellers photos... Not as bad as it looks, was only in the grass for 2 months since he got it back...

That would make a great project well done on getting it

Looks like a good save mate, pinky red cars are the most rewarding ones they look sooo much better once you polish them up. Make sure you post up the before and after pics of the paintwork.
-
Nice save!
LOLed at it being driven from Birmingham to Ludlow with no MOT....
-
and i thought my paint was long gone! jeez. will be nice to see this one come back to its original shine. btw for compounds i found that 3M cutting compound is better than G3. gets through the paint faster =)
-
Excellent find, looking forward to following the project and seeing the renovation!
Now if you lose interest and those wheels aren't wanted... just let me know ;)
-
Nice one mate, good to see its going to live on.
-
The interior looks really tidy, even if it is beige ;) Having been parked up on grass, I'd be expecting a lot of rust underneath.
-
Don't worry it was driven over at night apparently :)
He did suggest I drive it from Ludlow to mine, uh I don't think so, not if you have a trailer!
The wheels are actually the reason I ended up with the car, he had a single Hydra alloy listed on eBay and I asked if he happened to have any more which he didn't but offered me a set of these wheels (linking me a pic of a wheel off this car). I asked how much and he said I can have the whole car if I want.
Rust underneath was my concern but it was only in the grass for 2 months. First thing I thought was if it was rotten then I'd break it but after my brief check it looks good, just the normal surface corrosion to the exhaust and suspensions bits etc.
I will share photos during the big polish, I can guarantee that! :)
-
What did you pay for it?? Be honest, we wont hate you for it........ too much :)
-
£200 plus £30 delivery :)
I had no idea of the condition of the car before hand, he offered it me for that so I said yes. Bit disappointed at the high mileage but of course this really doesn't matter.
I'm pleased to say that the family have apparently found a big stack of receipts for this car and are bringing it over next week, result! :)
-
Hope that you have her running soon and I look forward to seeing how she comes on. That's you and the guy that I bought Nautic back off that have rescued red 850 R's recently.
-
If the paint is salvageable with a machine polish then you sir have a major bargain! Excellent. Looking forward to seeing this project progress. I have just bought a grey 855R myself.

-
Great starting point for a project and at the right price. :)
-
Come on you've had nearly a week, lets see a before and after panel polished!!!
-
...and what's happened to the other 2 that might be sitting around?
I want one for £200 (or at least the wheels and tyres), first dibs :D
