Hi Liddo,
I've just discovered why NWT 2001 are saying they're parts only - they're closing down in a couple of weeks : ( .
Have you tried MerseySwede? What did they say?
The only other I can think of off the top of my head is Deeside Volvo in Connah's Quay. They're brilliant although not especially cheap.

They know their stuff though.
WHat sort of prices have you been quoted? Would you be as well off getting a replacement engine fitted and then trying to sort this one out yourself so you can sell it and recoup some money?
Regards
Andy
Merseyswede quoted around £450+ VAT for the Labour and gasket sets, then Id have to buy the head at £230, so £700 is a bit steap I thought!Quote:

I'll try Deeside Volvo aswell then ;)
Cant believe how much of a nightmare this is!!! I just want my car back, without it costing £1000,s :(
Deeside Volvo want about £1200-1300 to replace both cams and all the lifters :jaw: To swap the head, they want £550 plus the costs of the gaskets to swap the head IF I order one from Salvo
FFS, the cars only worth £3500!!! Oh we'll, looks like Im gonna have to coff up quite a bit of dosh!

Liddo , this is a couple of guys i know who break Volvos ( recently broke a yellow T5R ..link on forum ) but i see they have the above car in ....maybe worth trying them as they do carraige etc, might be a cheaper option...give them a shout.....Headswood Garage in Dennyloanhead , tel no is 01324 841636, Gordon or Sandy will help .
Scotty
Liddo mate you definitely want a second opinion, ask the original place how they know the cam is gone did they take the cam cover off?
I suppose the car cannot be moved?
good luck anyway mate
Gary
Liddo how far are you willing to go to get a good honest opinion and the work done right for the right price?
x
trailer it to Nottingham ;) it makes sense or take the cam cover off yourself.Quote:

I'm more than willing to help. If you can get some more volunteers then it may be possible to combine skills / knowlege and get it done in a couple of days.
I could even put someone up in my house overnight if necessary.
It just seems such a shame to go selling all these bits like those fantastic wheels and the RICA remap.

Andy

DPA a volvo specialist who has worked on all my T5's, J's T5's - both Steve and Siamblue used to travel from darn sarrff to use them thats how highly recommended they are. They are cheaper than most too (I think we get a disount with them ;))Quote:

I also have a very nifty set of valve spring compressors.
What's the worst that can happen?? LOL
Letting Wing Commander Wobbly test drive it :troutslapQuote:

I'll take it for a 2nd opinion to Engine Repair Specialists in Burscough to see if they can quote me happy.
Andy, the guy at Volvo said you need "special" tools to get the head off correctly, so that's put me off the DIY, and also the time factor too, as I dont get many free weekends :( Thanks VERY much for the offer though ;)
