Turn steering, Try start again

Hi guys,

not posted in a LONG time! Sold my S70 2.5T couple years ago, was a great car (S908 RBE)....anyone here got it?

I bought a 2008 S40 2.0D R Design SE Sport (needed the economy!), also a great car, nothing on the S70 though.

I recently had this message on the dashboard ' Turn Steering, Try Start Again'. Car wouldn't start, and immobiliser not engaging (the noise when you insert the key fob into the key hole).

Managed to roll start the car, but wouldnt start again with same problem when turning the car off again. I replaced the battery, refurbished the starter motor after reading some forums. Eventually took it to local independant Volvo specialist who immediately told me it was a steering wheel lock fault. He replaced it and all is well again (thank god, as I'd been having to drive the wife's delicate BMW!). Now I've got a spare original Volvo battery!

So for anyone with the same problem, it is most likely the same issue. Go straight to someone who knows Volvos.
