Volvo's power steering fluid is green, or was when I had my rack renewed a couple of years back.. Not sure if it still is but most of the power steering fluids used are ATF which is usually red so that's different to the Volvo stuff.
Atf? Doesn't sound like an ideal hydraulic fluid?
Well I'll go to t' foot of our stairs!
Never knew that. Gonna dip the p/s header and see what's been used. The missus was kind enough to tidy the shed a while ago. She put the bottle of volvo p/s fluid somewhere and now I can't find it :(
How much was the fluid mate?
I think it was about £14 from AC in aberdeen. The proper stuff so worth it really.
The bottle is a litre and the system takes 0.8 litres so it works well.

You could try these guys:

As above, gotta do mine sometime. I bought a bottle of the proper stuff and put 600ml in! I did spill quite a bit tho.
No problem Lee.
First prepare an old plastic bottle to catch the old fluid.Make sure it can hold at least a litre of fluid.I used an old 2 litre bottle for coke, irn bru etc.Leave the bottle cap secured and cut a large hole big enough to fit under the Power steering reservoir.
Make sure your wheels are pointing straight ahead.
Pull the reservoir up and out of its holder. Not too far, just enough to fit the cut bottle under.Unscrew the fluid feed pipe which is under the reservoir and catch the fluid as the reservoir empties.
Now you will need someone in the car to start the engine.
When the engine is started the fluid still in the pipes, pump etc. will be pumped out into the reservoir and you will need to be ready to catch this with your bottle.
The important bit....Dont run the engine for more than ten seconds. This is ample time for the fluid to be pumped out.
When thats done reattach the feed pipe, secure tightly and refill the fluid and secure the reservoir back in its slot, start the engine and check for leaks from feed pipe.
I`m pretty sure it takes 0.8 litres so dont use more than this.
When you first detach the feed pipe, it,s a good opportunity to clean the bottom of the reservoir and the pipe so the contact is clean when you reattach the feed pipe.
There`s no need to bleed anything, jump in and go.
Simples.

The correct fluid for my 2004 S60 is 'Pentosin CHF 11S' which is a modern hydraulic fluid found in cars like BMW Mini and our Volvos etc.
I didn't even bother getting a price from the stealers, I went straight to Halfrauds and bought some from there instead...

If Halfords charge £15 a litre, I would hate to think what Volvo charge.
Hope this helps.
