The reason behind this thread is, 1st is a waste of time, 5th is the new 4th
I was thinking about mixing the 1st,2nd & 3rd of a petrol box with 4th, 5th and 6th from a diesel box,
That would be interesting if possible, as I'm not sure how you would get on swapping in a different cluster, as I'm not sure how it would mesh to the other gears as the ratio would be different or whether you can swap the gear that would drive the cluster, good luck I'm still learning the 5 speed, will no doubt move on to the 6 speed as soon as a suitable one comes up though
Hasn`t Pedro mixed a petrol & diesel 5 speed boxes ?
If it helps?....according to Vadis the ratios for diesel and petrol are the same for M56........what you have to watch out for is what year the box comes from as the final ratio can even be 4.45 !!
I know it`s not M66 but just pointing out!
the M56H (as named as having in 850 T-5's) came with 4 different final drive ratios (3.77:1, 4.00:1, 4.25:1 & 4.45:1), as you say these all have the same ratios on the gears. The M56L has a lower ratio on 1st & 2nd gear, but came with a choice of the 4 different final drive ratios as listed above depending what model & year. So thats 8 different gearboxes with just 2 codes. I'm using the 850TDi/Audi engine which is M56LK, which has 3 different FDR's
The LK appears on a lot of P2 cars too with 2 possible FDRs iirc
Oh, and there's the L2K box with 2 different FDRs too - that's the derv boxes for the P2 ;)
It looks possible to build a 6 speed box so that 2k rpm you are doing 80 mph :)
Don't forget P2s have a larger circumference wheel/tyre combination so the speed would be lower in an 850 on a standard set up.;)
