T5 Swap deal
Would you guys consider a swap of a MINT Rica'd 1995 850 T5 with a few nice extras such as T5R suspension and S60R alloys for a mint 1998 S40 1.8i 16v on LPG on 17's with a magnex stainless, metallic black with black leather to be a good swap? I may shortly require a more fuel efficient car than the T5 but i am not 100% convinced if its a good swap.
-
Keep the T5 and buy a run around for a couple of hundred quid ;)
-
I cant afford the insurance on 2 cars. So the T5 will be going anyway but i have 3 people interested at 1250, i am just wondering if i could get a MINT 1998 s40 1.8i with all those extras for that money?
-
And what problems if any could arise from the s40 because my T5 is problem free and going strong. I also have a ported head, ported exhaust manifold, ported wastegate housing and reconned and ultrasonically cleaned white injectors for the T5. (I know it would make it worse on fuel but it would make it nicer to drive)
-
Going off Auto trader ads its low priced. You sound like theres been a shed load of wonga spent on the t5, id be very reluctant to sell or change buti understand that circumstances arise :(
Ive never had any experience with an S40 i have driven a V40 and i didnt like it, didnt feel as well built as my 855 T5, choice is yours at the end of the day :D
Good luck mate
-
By low priced you mean the S40 is cheap or the T5 is cheap?
-
The S40 seems cheap.
This S40 T4 with LPG is Buy It Now for £1k ;)

Yeah i have just been looking. The only downside is i know my T5 inside and out and i love it, i know nothing about the s40's and even though its supposedly mint i am unsure of its value and resellability. I know the T5's are not selling well at the moment but i think that will change once the economy picks up a bit, only prob with that is my baby is due in 3 months and my contract with Aston ends in 3 months and we have no idea if its going to be renewed, so a cheaper car may be a wise investment, however i have heard bad things about certain S40 models, mainly the GDI's but all of them seem to suffer from suspension bushes and running gear wear. Also this one has done 122k

i just saw that on the bay, its deffo not as nice as this one i have been offered. Ill wait to see what its really like in the flesh. Because if its not immaculate and runs perfectly in every way shape and form there is no way i am letting him drive away in my T5
-
Well said that man!
Long Live the T5 :D
Keep me posted matey :B_thumb:

What about LPG'ing the T5?
I've had a quote for mine, its £1955, but you can get a cheaper deal. That way you have best of both worlds
-
get yer T5 converted to LPG.... costs about a grand dunnit?
*edit*
I really should read all the comments before replying....
-
In all fairness if your T5 is problem free, it would probably be more cost effictive to keep it. You may end up swapping for this S40 and it could possibly land you with a big bill.
-
Although I am new to these cars, I am not new to losing bucket loads on cars.
As you've asked for opinions, I'll add to the mix by saying, if your car's your pride and joy,and it's a good as it sounds, do you really think the other one will been as good throughout?
If it's not, you'll have to spend out even more giving the new one a "birthday" of service items, possibly bushes, tyres etc.
If you add up what your car owes you, you may not fancy the T4 quite as much...when you factor in what you'll be losing in selling it, that'll be a lot of petrol/LPG.
And besides, witha nipper on the way, a bigger car would be better surely.
Good luck with your decision, they both sound nice, but one sounds nicer!

have you read up on the choking and clogging problems the 1.8i gdi mitsubishi engines can have? if any of the above arguments don't put you off the idea a quick read up on that should do the trick!
also i totally agree with Rob S...
-
hi i am a mechanic and i say dont buy gdi problem after problem, they even sell modified pistons for them cos they always go.lpg is a good route to go down i used to fit it,however it wouldnt run gdi when i was doing it.my t5 is standard at the mo but i fitted a hydrogen kit to it and driven sensibly to work,a 40 mile round trip i get 40mpg.it also gave a noticeable difference in torque.may be worth a try for you the kit is only 100pound and fitted in an hour.
-
How does the hydrogen work out on insurance? Sounds a very painless solution....
-
havent told them is the honest answer however it is as quick to remove as install with no evidence of it ever being there.you can make the kits yourself or buy on ebay but ask before buying one have tried several kits for customers and a few didnt work at all.

I think the S40 is genuine but i wont know till i test drive it on friday. I am very unsure and wary of this because as said i do love my T5. I would happily convert my T5 to LPG but i have NO expendable income to do it which is where my problems arise.
As for the GDI stuff, i have read up on it but there are 2 different versions of the S40 1.8i aren't there, there is the volvo engined 1.8 and the mitsi GDI. Or would this car deffo be the gdi? if it is he is getting a call tomorrow to tell him not to waste his time.
