Thanks Simon for the advice and the tool. Got one out today. B..tard it was. Then it rained so did not try to fit the new one.
Regarding your other thread, I realised I have got a pair of the inner bushes ready to fit as well. If I get anywhere with it I will let you know, as I have a thicker ARB to go in, and both suspension mounting brackets to do whilst I am mucking about under the back there.
Figured I will do the inner bushes if I dont lose the will to live by then.
Thanks Simon - both bushes now done, car on all fours again, bumper back on and neighbours happier with the view again.
The job was made easier by heating the arm until the rubber started smoking and the releasing fluid bubbled. It was still brutal!
Going to put the blue 21.5mm ARB in before the arch liners go in but heaps of time to do all that. Splattered loads of waxoyl around whilst at it. The old brakcets were "rotten as a peach" as the MoT man rightly said!
Cannot see how the inner trailing arm bushes can be done without dropping the susp as you said.

Just thought I would share some pics - Lusty, my 1996 t5 etsate failed the MoT due to a rusty rear suspension bracket, so I have just changed them both and at the same time replaced the trailing arm main bushes. This is what the old bracket looked like - it is understandable why it failed - it was significantly lighter than the new one, purely because there was LESS OF IT!!

I was a little worried about doing this job, in case the whole rear went out of alignment when the four large bolts were taken out, but it was a doddle. The worst bit was releasing the brake pipe union and handbrake cable attachments.
So while I was at it (as per the OP on this thread) I changed the trailing arm bushes - this is what came off. Not much swearing but a piggy job. Made easier on teh second one by the early application of heat. Once rubber smoke started appearing it came out much easier, the problem being the rust inside forcing the bush to expand and wedge itself into the inside of the arm. The new ones went in fine (less heat, WD40 and some bicep power).

Hi Abdul, assume you mean the brackets or bushes?? The arms were on the car.
The brackets were from Partsforvolvosonline and I think one of the bushes also with the other one coming from GSF - again I only decided to do both once the car was up in the air.
hen I ordered the first bracket they were only available from Volvo at the time (£110 - ouch) but by the time I decided to do both together this was partly because PFV have now added them to their stock and they are around £40.
