Volvo V50 clutch Biting point?

I had a look through the forum before posting for something about this but couldn't see any thing and was looking for some advice.

Basically I passed my test about a week ago and bought the Volvo v50 s d drive (2010) a day ago, it has 60k on the clock.
While being a understandably inexperienced at driving, I noticed the clutch goes from engaged to disengage in about the first 8-10% of movement of the pedal and the other 90% doesn't really do anything.

Is this normal or is my clutch worn??

The car i did my lessons in was more of a 20% too biting point, so i find my self coming off the clutch early and generally being a little bit "bouncy" gearing.
