Don't break the glass transponder chip that's moulded into the flip part as that will make the key useless.
That's the part that worries me the most Harvey as I've only got one key so it's not as if I've got another to fall back on.
you can buy the the flip bit with blade from volvo , which would get you in the car as it comes cut for the locks, but won't start it.
I got a key for my S60 which cost around £230, 6 years ago. with programming to the car, don't even think of getting a cheap key from ebay unless it comes with the volvo barcode , Or it will be a nice paper weight and thats all you could use it for.
I think the key has 3 part numbers blade, flip bit, 5 button bit, but the key blade & flip comes as one bit , and the barcode on the bag is what you need to get volvo to program it to the car without it they can't do anything . They will also remove lost keys from the ecu so no one can start the car with a old key.
if you are going to try to remove the chip from a working key just be very carefull with the glass chip.
not sure if you can get a service type key which has no flip or buttons but will open the car and start it , worth a phone call ?
Looks like it will be a phone call to volvo to see how much another fob will be tbh it needs a spare key anyway
Must be a good car if the only thing wrong with was a floppy key ;)
looking at a video on youtube, the fix looks simple enough and the cheap £3.50 flip bits would be cheap enough to donate their new button, as this dose appear to be the bit that breaks, but not sure I like the idea of gluing it back together, but it would only be the same as abs controller modules when they fail, just a matter of making a tidy job of it and I'm lucky to have 2 keys, so I could use the Mrs's as the guinea pig.....lol
That's it Adrian there's no doubt if I had two keys I would go for it and I'm sure it will be fine but with ot having the one key i dont fancy taking the risk
I'm going to take the plunge and order a couple of blanks to do the youtube repair, found them for £2.29.....lol two keys fixed for a fiver if it all works out hopefully. I may as well buy as cheap as possible as I'm only really going to use the button and possibly the spring, the rest will most likely go in the bin.
