Nice... I have a v70r in Nautic blue aswell.
Ok yes no problem I'll get one done soon.
Hi I've hopfully uploaded this picture more to follow.
MMmmmm.... mayonaise on the dipstick, but not under the oil fill cap. Bit of coolant use.......
Have I bought a lemon??
Its defo in need a good service, I knew that...
Think I'll blitz a service on it tomorrow, do a coolant flush and replace at the weekend and then see where I stand.
Pray for me!!!
Hmm . mayo .. funny thing .. if i dip the oil on mine there is mayo .. none in actual engine .. infact clean as a whistle . coolant is clean and doesnt use a drop .. car doesnt sit still and goes anywhere .. frightened to touch it lol incase it breaks so i just keep motoring on !
On that subject, just been speaking to a chap (Scott... Alan in the shed) and he was fairly sure that they're all prone for gunge in the dipstick tube, heat of the engine vs cold metal and thus said tubes seemingly build up a coating of gunk and as long as the oil filler cap is clean / coolant is clear then it seems to be fairly normal. He reckoned a gentle blow down with the airline pre oil change would clean it up for a good few thousand miles.
The reason they are all prone to this gunge is because the "O" ring at the top of the stick either becomes hard and brittle or it is missing allowing cold air down the tube which is warm as it is on the engine and so condensation happens and mixes with the oil.
If you replace the "O" ring it does not happen.
There are TWO sizes depending what model Volvo so you need the correct one !
Totally agree.
One more thing. Mayo on the oil filler cap doesn’t mean your head gasket is leaking nor that you have a cooling issues.
It’s just the normal build up of condensation that mixes with oil and causes it to emulsify.
Replacing the large oil filler cap O ring helps as they get hard and shrink.
Mayo in the header tank however, is another story and should be addressed urgently.
Well I changed the oil, the muppets that are carparts4less sent me 5w30 instead of the 5w40 I had ordered. I gave up on waiting for them to respond to my complaint so changed it anyway. I new it was due a service, probably well overdue by the looks of the oil so I thought I stick the 5w30 in for a few weeks and then change the oil again when I get the 5w40.
Mayo was still present slightly after the change but seems to have cleared up now.
I wonder if its be used for short journeys a lot where as I do 30 miles down the motorway to work and back.
Haven't tried to work out how much its costing to run this LPG cruiser. Maximum I've managed to get into the LPG tank was £28 (65.9 pence a litre) and around 200 miles on the trip, knocking off 20 miles before this to account for the warm up time it does on petrol.
LPG filters to do, drain LPG reducers, if I can figure out how to do it!!
atf change, easy enough.
top mounts (both bearings and rubbers) to hopefully solve some nasty front end suspension noises. Why these were changed when the shocks were replaced is beyond me. They are clearly shot with one side clearly collapsed.
That's it so far.
Need to test the PCV system also...
Oh, a coolant flush and replace to satisfy me that nothing funny is going on.
That is all...... for the time being...
:B_thumb:
Oil changed, dropped the 5w30. It was rather dirty from being in for such a short time.
5w40 in now.
LPG filters ( x3 ) done. They were nasty. Clearly haven't been done for donkeys.
Flushed ATF fluid out. Man it was nasty. Only bought 8 litres, wished I bought more but dropped the 3.5 litres that came out when I drained it, filled with 2 litres, ran engine/gearbox through gears, dropped 2 litres, ran engine/gearbox, dropped 2 litres, filled with 3 and a bit litres. So much cleaner now.
Might buy some more and do it again in a few weeks.
Oh, fitted the MBC........ Blimey. Its turned the low end engine revs and lethargic 4 speed box into a beast.
Oh, coolant flushed and replaced. Looks good so far!!
