is a volvo 760 turbo fast?
i mean compared to sumit like a 850 or a t5?
LMAO, the 760 turbo is a pussy compared with the t5, however expect to get 120mph cruising speed out of one....
The cars are very different, tho it is well possable that a mbc will quicken it up no end..BTW i have had the pleasure of a trip in Ryans 740 turbo (not et mind) mega-squirted up and it shifts.......big time..James and Ryan are the 7 series "know-it-alls" but i expect you will have to wait for the voc to open or log onto t5d5 for thier input...
If your after tyre shreading moments the 760 will only entertain in the wet, however if you are looking for a solid reliable ride with the potential for playing around with the rwd then this is a good car....
Cheers

what are they like for fuel? mpg?
760 has 6 cyls, 740 has 4...
Nearly Al, some of the later 760s had the 4 cylinder engine with the LH2.2 fuel injection and a turbo (wierd I know).
There were some twin cam engines built (engine code B234F, might have been 940s only though), but they seem pretty rare.
MPG is crap, expect around 20 - 25. My old 940 was the lowest engine size 2.0litre, and it only did 25 - 28 MPG. The bigger engines do less than that.
Useless info bit - The V6 engine used in the Volvo 760 was used in the Delorean!
The 760 and 940 turbo's are supposed to be more easily tunable and slightly more bomb proof then the T5's. We didn't get the twin cam versions here as they were only available as a left hooker, something to do with the steering column fouling on the turbo of the twin cam. That's not to say that people haven't done the swap and managed to re-jig things to get it to fit on a right hooker.
some basic power figures from the 740 / 760:
B200ET = 163 BHP (2.0 8v Turbo)
B200FT = 155 BHP (2.0 8v Turbo, with catalytic converter)
B230ET = 182 BHP (2.3 8v Turbo)
B230FT = 156 BHP (2.3 8v Turbo, with catalytic converter)
B280E = 170 BHP (V6 12v Non turbo)
Purely out of interest does any body know if the V6 shares the same bellhousing pattern as the T5 ? (doubt it but you never know) and did you know that the same 5 pot (in 2.5 NA guise) also powered some of the old Renault Safranes ?.....hmm, T5 Safrane anyone !!!!
I had a 760 turbo a few years back, i increased the boost on the turbo with a bleed valve (not the greatest mod i know) and it went very well, not totally dissimilar to a T5 actually, certainly fast enough to be interesting. And what a great car, sold mine with 215k on the clock and it was still going strong. The guy who's got it now says it's upto 260k and still as good as new. Shaun

Can anyone tell me why the big drop in power and if i decat my 855 will it increase the power? Also would it still pass the emmissions test at the MOT?
Sorry but all Volvo's before the 850(Facelift) where naff.....(run's and hides behind sofa!!!)....... The early Volvo's had good build quality but they weren't exactly performance cars where they?, the only exception is the wedge, and that only has the looks....
This 740 looks a beast......

Just shows what you could do with these cars, Amazing!
it might be but it's still hideous!!. Sorry but I'm just not a fan of the early cars.
Id sacrifice the looks for the performance T.C.
Of course id only go out in it at night with a brown bag over my head, LOL.
Im not a fan of the looks either, just shows how far Volvo have come since then.
yeah that guy who has that car is nuts, you should see the other video's, something like 500bhp 16v 2.3. its mental, and he is a pretty good drifter aswell. i aspire to have my 940 at that stage this time next year :)
and for the record i have had my 940 at silly speeds 140-150mph (track) and it was as standard, just stripped out interior.
and to answer the power drop with the cat. the cat installed on that is, i believe an 800 cell unit. these are quite restrictive so they generate heat to get up to working temperature quickly. i do believe also you can remove them if your car is before 1992, and if not, probably best to get a performance, which is like 400 cell or 200, but i am not sure what the effects on emissions would be with that. please dont quote me as i hate cats and they aint my area. also correct me if i am wrong and speaking out of my bottom
