the offset of a wheel is the distance in mm that the mounting face (which touches the brake disc) is away from the centre of the width of the wheel. ie a wheel with 0 offset will have the mounting face exactly in the middle of the rim

in the case your talking about the 46mm offset will sit 3mm further out of the arch than the 43mm. Meaning it might catch on the wheel arch on corners
thanks for the reply mate, so am i right in thinking that these would be ok? 17x8j with an offset of 46? would prefer someone with the experience to say 'yay' or 'neh' without any mods before i go for them, and am assuming as there is a good gap between the wheel arch and my original 16" that it would work?
by the way my suspension is lowered by 40mm
sorry but can't give a definate yes or no, but 8" is a wide wheel. I'm running 8x18 (not sure what offset) but have to use an under-cut tyre so it doesn't rub
so the 8x18 is on your 850? i'm under the impression that 18's rub on an 850, can you advise... worse than a text message this lol. any help you can give is seriously appreciated
yeh there on the 850. I know a few 850's on 18's so there not a problem
i'm currently running 215/35/18's & think the rubbed on the inner linings on full lock before i binned them, i have used 225/35/18 before which did help alot with traction. I want to go to 19's tho lol.
i'll have a look thru the receipts tomorrow & see if i can find out what offset they are
I'm sure you'v got that the wrong way around, I think it would be 3mm further in, the less the offset number, the further out the wheel will sit.
Use this to calculate

anyone know what the offset on a columba is? what a headache...be buying a new car at this rate
all help is crucial pedro, thanks for it
ok, trying to work this out, so if your brain works quicker do feel free to post, and thanks for the help :)apparently a columba wheel which is what i mhave at the moment, is PCD 5x108
Offset 35 to 38
Bore 65.1
and the ones i want to buy and fit are 8j 17" with an offset of 46.
If the columba 7.5 inch wide, I think your going to need 10mm spacers
so basically they'll fit with spacers, yes?
ok, thanks mate
