Early P2 mate - be careful. It's not had the DIM done yet, there's also the ETM to think about but the pegs, zorst, £14 ebay air filter and most of the rest of the car are worth a bit so it could be worth £2000+ if broke.
if your budget is big enough get the later 2.4. they never fail.
always thought the 2.4s had a smaller turbo on
DIM (drivers information module - speedo) is known to fail on the pre 2004 models. Cost me 732.50 to replace :( ETM (electronic throttle module) is a known problem on pre-2003 cars causing stalls, rough idle, flat spots etc. Again - expensive to sort. Many early P2 cars get scrapped for these reasons.
the 2004 - on 2.4 T5 cars have a KKK24 turbo which flows a lot more air than the 16T unit in the older P2 T5 lumps. But they're not without their foibles.
I think im defo going to look at it just would love to no what that red stuff is on the passenger seat
well ive messaged him just waiting for a reply now
I'm not saying scrap it if the etm fails but imagine old Doris having trouble with her V70, taking it to a dealer and being quoted some astronomical price to have the ETM changed, or being told £750 for a speedo...
Check there's no weird stuff going on with the speedo, have a look at the ETM - look for Bosch printed on it, not Magnetti Marelli, plug a code reader into it if you have one etc, etc.
Personally, I'd leave it well alone but that's just me speaking from bitter (and somewhat expensive) experience.
Don't do it. Why do you want an estate with a turning circle the size of an oil tanker anyway?
If you have to go for the 2004 T5 (with the 2.4 litre lump). It tunes better.
You think the C70 is bad - just you wait LOL.
Fair enough if you need the space - but really try for the 2004 onwards - less gremlins more power.
And there's the comfort and safety you get with the P2 as well.
I'd still avoid that one tho ;)
its gone anyway so ill just keep looking
If I'd known about the apparent problems that plague the early Ph2s I probably wouldn't have bought mine. Touch wood, everything is OK so far, but then I've not done many miles in it yet. I think it's healthy to make people aware of the common problems, and even healthier if the info is freely available for people to know where to go to get the right parts at the right prices and get the job done without having to consider scrapping a perfectly good car. But I would advise that this information should be presented with a modicum of caution, let's not let it become scare mongering! It won't do anyone any good, least of all those of us who own early Ph2s who might find they become hard to sell on (even if in perfect working order) just becasue the internets says they are bad :Handshake
EDIT: I noticed the red on the passenger seat. I can;t be arsed to go back and look again but it looked to me like red electrical tape, so would assume the seats been chewed by a dog or something (hungry child maybe?)
Hi there's always my P2 for sale:
http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthre...-Nav-on-Comets
It's on Autotrader now and getting a fair bit of interest so just PM me if you are interested.
:viking:
A very good point mate.
For all the dodgy P2's there's far more good ones. It's like anything, you only hear of the bad stuff. Nobody says how good a lightbulb is at illuminating a room but when it fails it's "bloody useless thing" lol.
I like to think my P2 is in pretty good shape but then I've replaced about 60% of it in the last 3 years. Resale value? I'd be lucky to get £1500 for it. 202k miles, £270 a year to tax, group 16E insurance, p155-poor fuel econemy etc etc
I've put over £3000 into it so far and to me, she's worth every penny.
i can count on one hand what ive had to do to mine. had it almost 3 years now. remaped to 328 bhp. its gad brake shoescand wishbone bushed. about to get pads nd discs on front. thsts all its needed except for service and clutch. all wear and tear items. best and most reliable car ive ever owned
I know a local car dealer selling a red P1 v70 T5 for just under a grand if anybody wants me to have a look at it, I might be able to get a better price.
