whoops... sorry to hear the bad news :(
Was the DEM beyond repair or you prefer not to risk further issues and ordered the new DEM?
I know Volvo does not repair DEMs, however there are few companies who does that. (Xemodex, Volvodiagnostic)

And that's just it! I've no idea. I'm not bothered to be honest, because if I were to do it myself the car would be off the road for weeks as I just don't get time to do the job in a fashionable time. I can't afford the car to be off the road for weeks. When I replaced my PCV/FMIC the car was off the road for 6 weeks!! It was an absolute logistic nightmare.
It's also not the sort of thing I fancy doing, laying on my back on the driveway, in the snow and ice!!
The other point to note is the 4mm Hex bolts are known for seizing in the alloy cast of the Diff. If they snap, then you're in a world of pain - and it would definitely need to be in a dry, warm workshop on a ramp then!
Plus, by the time I actually removed the DEM and then posted it to Xemodex, I won't know if it's repairable for days. Then I'd be back to square one.
It's at the dealer and the parts have been ordered. It will be back on the road soon and that's fine by me. It will cost what it costs and that's that.
bugger, sorry to hear that Lee.
I got my DEM repaired from volvodiagnostic in London, as my learned Irish friend has already mentioned above, seems OK so far.
Finally picked up my car yesterday from Volvo and pleased to say that all is well.
Fault was the DEM module casing silicone seal had failed and the DEM was full of water and corrosion.
It is very common that the DEM bolts snap in the Diff as they are only 4mm torqs bolts, luckily, mine came out ok.
Just as well I didn't go down the Xemodex route!
Anyway, the breakdown of repair looks like this:
Parts
Differential Electronic Module #36001749 £1258.00
DEM software #8688783 £35.40
DEM Oil pressure/temp sensor #30651694 £113.00 (VIDA recommends this is replaced if the module is changed)
Haldex oil #31367940 £13.00
Haldex filter #30787687 £22.00 (Even though I had my Haldex oil + filter changed this time last year when my DEM pump failed, I wanted it replaced as it was ensure 100% flush as no drain plug).
Total Labour (inc 25% discount) £328.14
*I get 12% discount on all parts*
Total £2026.66.
I'm happy with the end result, despite the cost, as maybe it's the placebo effect, but the car definitely drives nicer and the car definitely responds better with regards to traction. Maybe the module was starting to react slower, who knows?
It's all good now though :)
Once my wallet has recovered I'll be back on the modding wagon.
Ouch not a small bill, not had any Dem problems yet myself. Are the pre face lift more prone to issues?
Nope. All are identical.
Glad your R is back on the road and hope the wallet recovery won't take too long!
I'm sure this will help someone out at some point but I noticed when doing my research that many ppl just assume it will either be the DEM pump or the DEM module plugs and even the Haldex oil and filter blocked (:troutslap) and not consider that it may just be the module.
One guy in the states had exactly the same fault codes as me and instructed his local garage to crack on and replace the DEM pump costing £324 and that will have required software. Two weeks later and the fault returned! Proving that proper interpretation of the fault codes along with actual fault tracing and diagnosing is always required, rather than just chuck money at your car.
Here are the VIDA codes I had along with 'ANTI-SKID SERVICE REQUIRED' Displayed in the dash:

If you click on DEM module in VIDA, you can clearly see it telling you the module is not responding! (picture above)

The above picture shows the actual fault code list in delivery - NOTE: DEM module is greyed out.
You will also note that CPM (Combustion Preheater Module) is not on CAN bus, but is instead controlled by CEM (central electronic module) This will be for Diesels only. Thus, not required on my caR, therefore no software loaded into CEM.
Green – No DTC is present
Red – DTC is found active
Yellow – DTC is found not active
Grey – Control module not part of the vehicle configuration or not responsive to
communication
Be mindful that the colours of the modules mean different things, dependant if you are Fault tracing 'delivery' or fault tracing 'unselected CSC' (as shown below)
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ps4qnnkzzf.jpg
Green – Control module has a relation to selected CSC but no fault found by the
DTC test
Red – Control module has a relation to selected CSC and DTC is found active
Yellow – Control module has a relation to selected CSC but DTC is found not active
White – Control module has no relation to selected CSC
Grey – Control module not part of the vehicle configuration or not responsive to
communication
Hope this helps :)

Got a huge box on its way :)

Here's the said box....

This will be fitted today. :D
I also replaced my screen wash filler neck, as the old one was hard, brittle, discoloured and the screw mounting had failed.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ps1ziowrzh.jpg
#9178562 £4.70 filler pipe
#986062 £1.15 torq screw
So, what's in the big box? Looks a bit bigger than the filler neck would require.😏
Your engine bay is always spotless. Nice job!
Changing the filler neck is proper attention to detail!
Last thing I got in a box that big was an exhaust.
Am I right?
Tell me, tell me, tell me... :D
Edit:
Last box I received that big had a set of HT leads and more bubble wrap than an Amazon warehouse!
Lee has a custom exhaust. So I think it should be something else....
Big telly then?
Large wine glass
Perhaps a V70 R version of this?

Needed very minor modification and some stainless steel screws.
A big thankyou to Bill (aka uqj83l) for a helpful hand fitting. :B_thumb:
Looks lovely :)
