as the title really. I've seen many AWD S/V70R's with the props removed running as FWD. What part is it that causes them to go, is it the collar from the transfer box
also can the M58 be ran the over way & just rwd, & would it need the transfer box if you wanted to run it as RWD
The gearboxes are the same as the M56 but with an extra output attached to the diff. The main failures are usually the connecting sleeve wears or the angle gear breaks.
I would say no to running as RWD only as the rear is only designed handle 50% of the power maximum from the engine.Quote:

As Harvey's said the prop, and rear diff isn't designed for that much power, also Ford tried the same sort of thing with the MKI Mondeo when they were looking at going back into touring cars, but found the transmission losses to be too great to make it workable/competitive. So if you did beef up the propshaft, and rear diff, you'd still have the same transmission loss as a AWD car.
The volvo AWD syatem is mainly FWD with RWD assitants.
i keep thinking of a RWD 850, turn the engine & M90 has got to be the strongest/most reliable way really
