I've run Nexen or Events on my 850 t5 for years and can't really tell the difference from the Vreddys or Michelin that I ran previously.
unless you are a fast driver there is no need to buy really expensive tyres
just slapped some hankook v12 on mine and they were as good as if not beter than my old avons i hate to agree with something frankie says but the expensive ones arnt worth it unless you actually go fast
Some cheap tyres are pretty hard though, which makes them quite poor in cold weather and you can get good tyres in our sizes for around £100 which aint bad.
Funny you say about the hankooks V12 that's what I have just fitted to the car very Quiet tyres to say the very least, very happy with them ,just removed the hankook winter tyres which are fine in the cold but Noisy when ambient temperature is higher.
The evo V12 hankook is not a Budget tire any more ATS wanted £145 per tyre 235-40-18, Plus fitting them as well.
Relax frankie I was only having a dig to feel like one of the crowd :) and my hankooks were 74 quid a corner fitted for 225 45 zr 17
I was sticking premium tyres on mine for a while ( price wasn't a worry as I get them trade and fit them myself anyway) but with the missus doing 25k a year in it I was going through 2 pairs a year on the front ! That's why I switched to Nexen then later on to Events. A lot of the cheaper tyres are actually made by the 'premium' brands anyway as they were loosing sales to budget tyre manufacturers so remarketed their own. Also older tyre tread patterns and technology gets sold on which is why you often recognise a tyre tread pattern but it has a different manufacturer on the sidewall.
ZZ3 are a little cheaper and look nicer but the ZV5 are brilliant. Far better grip in wet or dry conditions than Barum Bravuris2 or ZZ3 and quiet.
I've been using ZV5 for ages, as has V70Graham and Smithy. They really are good mate and National Tyres do them in 225 45 17 for £169 a pair.
One tyre I wouldn't recommend is P-Zero Rosso - unless they're red-hot, they're useless... and dangerous in the wet!
We've got Nexen N6000 on both cars, they're great tyres, but as I've found out don't like being hooned 'round a track. ;)
