ME7 was only introduced for the 1999 models. No 1998 model volvo had ME7, even if they were on the road and registered in 1998. (If you check the cars VIN number it will 100% be a 1999 model).
I've just got G-Max springs on mine and it still rides good, not too hard and it handles alot better with no rubbing.
I think redbrick had coilovers on his red 850 maybe he can help you out with advice

Might be top mount as said, I've had these go on my last cars - sounds terrible but was easy to fix (20 min job) and cheap.
first have a look at the top mount where the top of the shocker comes through in the boot

it needs to go as close to the throttle body as possible mate
the pipe from the dv goes to the inlet manifold if you trace the pipe from the recirc it will lead you to the nipple where it wants to go
My heat pad etc was replaced years ago but not under warranty as TC suggested even though there was a recall.
I would test everything before you reconnect.
The wire had come off due to overheating...
its a quite common thing on 850's, either people sat in the back with the feet under there catch them, or loose stuff in the rear footwells roll around & pull them out

twin piston dump valves are specially made for cars with a MAF sensor (which ours has). The recirc valve is blocked becuase its alrady doing the same job as a dump valve, only it recycles the air...
The recirculating valve iirc releases pressure from the turbo :confused:
I removed mine on my last car and blanked it off with a forge plate, very fiddly job :grumpy:
