Common problem, I've been researching this myself recently. The thick ally part bends over time due to the strength of the double springs, passenger wiper arm is now no longer available from Volvo...
With gav on this, mine were causing trouble and a breaker said he's seen it before, just need to bend them to where they should be.
The wiper arms bend with age mate, bend them back to how you want them should clear the bonnet then.
I think 850s and s/v70s have different ecu's - motronic 4.3 for the 850 and its 4.4 for the s/v70s. Its not possible to simply swap them over but i think in may be possible so that it can be modified...
To answer question 1, the 850 has a M4.3 ECU, the early P1s have M4.4, it is possible to retrofit them, some will just plug and play others won't, it's a bit of trial and error afaik.
2 don't know...
no worries :) I used to work at Teesside uni in research, that must be where my perverse love of finding stuff comes from
The guy will know his stuff about the older volvos!

Go for some jcs hi grip clips...
im in process of doing my bay now alls fresh and just waiting on a lot of hoses to complete the show ;)
To me it sounds like a cv joint, either a inner or outer.
whichever way you go with the part, don't even consider not getting new seals and clips. whilst they aren't cheap they can pop off if not renewed.
for security always best to put on a 25mm hose clip...
in a good way, eg spolier for 850 £50ish plus vat
These came from PFV :)

The nuts hold the strut top but nothing will move when you remove them. Just don't do them up too tight as they can snap off.
You need to relese the small catch. If you wind the seat back down, lie on your back, and look up behind the glovebox door with a torch, make the gap wider by inserting something thick. You'll be...
