Hi all,

I have recently purchased a white, 98 T4 for track days.

It is partially stripped (no carpet or rear door panels)

It has:

17" with Bridgestones
Upgraded brakes - no idea what, but there is an invoice from, I think RT for £250
BSR optiflow kit
lowered - once again not sure what or when - think the shocks are Gabriel?
Steam train sounding blow off valve
Jetex exhaust - not had it on ramp yet

I have two rolling road printouts, one showing 225 and another a month later showing around 240.

Ill post some photos soon, its really clean on the outside.

Now for a couple of quick questions:

1. The engine is a bit tappety - common fault or big issue?
2. I am based around Essex/East London - any decent independant garages around?

PLANS:

sort interior with further weight reduction where possible. Early ideas include remove excess metal from interior and door shells and remove rear seats.

sort brakes - it stops well enough but I am sure they need at least new fluid and brake hoses (where best to buy braided hoses from?)

Thanks all

Out of interest, does anybody regularly visit these services going North-bound?

Noticed a small problem with the slip-road per-chance, like people going onto the hard shoulder thinking it’s the slip-road?

hi all, i was wondering if anybody else has had the same problem as mine or could point to what's causing the smoke?

i've recently bought my self a t5 estate and apart from discs and pads and an oil return pipe o-ring needing doing it's all good, that is until my missus noticed it smoking when i pulled up outside the house, but when she told me i'd already turned the engine off, so i started it back up again and it was fine???. anyway, i just pulled up at asda and reversed into the parking bay and my missus said it's smoking again (engine running still this time), and it was white smoke (quite bad), so i revved the car and it dissapeared, but i noticed on both occasions i had just reversed when it started??......

i've done the stage 0 service apart from dizzy cap and rotor arm, and just started filling up on super (1st time it smoked was on normal fuel), and i've just bought some bg44 fuel system cleaner (good stuff), could it be the turbo on it's way out??

cheers jamie.

Guys, fairly recently had my rear discs and pads replaced by Readview, all has been well of course (S60 D5)

Tonight however, I got out of my car after a motorway run and could smell hot brakes! It was the left hand rear, the wheel was really hot, brakes were stinking and the protective paint on the disc centre was burning off!!

Now, I did have a few hard braking moments during the journey, and having let it cool down I took it for a run, didn't get any hotter than I would deem normal, the car also moves freely which suggests the brakes aren't binding! Anything else could have caused that kind of heat? Failing bearing for example? Binding would seem favourite, but I can move it easily on a flat piece of tarmac, not resistance other than the cars weight.

Any suggestions welcome.

Hi All,

My mother-in-law is emigrating and is looking to sell her Astra. Its in good condition, drives very well, taxed till november and its just been serviced and MOT'd. She's had it about 6yrs to go backwards and forwards to her school (shes a teacher). It has currently done 96888 miles, and i believe the cambelt is due at 100k.

It does have a couple of marks on the body, one in the drivers door where one of her darling pupils threw a stone at her, and a small one on the boot. One scuff on the front bumper, but other than that, its nice. Obviously its not been ragged, believe me, Ive been in it whens shes being doing 60mph in the middle lane of the motorway :slap:

Here are a few pics. I spent all last night getting it red again, but it still needs more work if you wanted it totally totally red.

She's after £1500ono which is great considering most are going for £2k

So The R is in for an MOT.

I know it won't pass - the ABS unit is out for repair and the station is aware of this - but want to know what else needs fixing.

My current bets are on:
Wishbone bushes - I know they are shot - the IPD AFB may be great, but they shagged these bushes in three months.
Handbrake adjustment - when is an 850 handbrake any good?
Wipers - Bosch only seem to last about 6 months.

Suspect the HIDS may cause a problem, and also the air horn.

But there is bound to be a joker in the pack too - like a new cat or something similarly infuriating.

Oh MOTs I hate them. It is like going to confession, and then having to do penance. Just a bit more expensive.

Bloody hell.
