Got the Haynes manual, but it's one of the newer ones with spanners all over it, so not that good. The wiring diagram is ok, but a bit cartoon like. What circuits do you need to know about?

Cheers mate, front&rear lights and power circuits/accessories (Audio, air con, power/heated seats, cigaraette lighter etc behind dash if you know what I mean.

Anyone know if you can get blank switches from volvo to match the ones on the centre consule and if you can are there various stickers available to go on them?

I have always wondered about the Phase 2s - even the top spec R seems to have a number of blank switch positions at the bottom of the centre dash (in front of the gear stick) - wondering if they are gonna add extra toys later, e.g. Ejector seats, heat-seeking missiles etc etc?? I am sure there is enough room in the wings to fit forward mounted machine guns??

Have you got the new Haynes manual for the V70 P2?
Is it any good? Is the T5 covered? More to the point, is it worth £19?
Is it better or worse than just using software like, say, Vadis?

I have uses planned for the blanks (no missiles, front and rear cameras in fact), wondered if the loom already has spares in it for the blanks back towards the fuse box and if you don't have front fogs is there a spare for them in the main loom. not sure if they will show up in haynes manual but any info from anyone who knows welcome.

Spare ways in fusebox and blanks in dash suggest something was planned. Volvo handbook says from left to right

Spare, folding mirrors, fog lights not sure where, stc, dstc, alarm sensor override, child locks.

not sure if you get stc and dstc at the same time so maybe one more is spare? I only have stc, no folding mirrors, no fog lights etc so have acres of blanks to choose from.

Can you get the switches to go in the blanks or you need to get one of the ones that are fitted and mod it?

Right, now I've actually made it home and found the Haynes, it turns out I was talking Bo**ocks. It does not cover the P2s. Sorry chaps. Pretty sure the front fog lamp wiring will be there in the loom. Mine does not have front fogs, but all the wiring for them is there. And that's after the Feds rewired it!!

You'll find that it's not easy to fit non-Volvo after-market electrical items to the P2 cars, especially if you want them to integrate with the current systems.

For example, I fitted a non-Volvo tow bar to my car and wanted to get the socket for the trailer lightboard working. The towbar came with a generic socket but any attempt to patch that into the car's wiring and the car got REALLY upset. Displayed warnings all over the place and refused to switch on the lights, etc.
There's a plug in the spare wheel well for Volvo's trailer socket loom. So I bought that (~£15) and plugged it in but it turns out that it won't actually work until the appropriate piece of software is uploaded (~£80).

from what i've read it seems the p2 has resistance monitors built into everything and any loss of current/increased resistance seems to set off all the alarms.

I assume if a way of stabalising the resistance such as and small pcb with additional resistors was added this may help calm the sensitive nerves. Only issue would be working out what it needs to be.

anyone with any experience of this?

otherwise looks like back to putting in our own feeds etc as standalone items.

Well, clearly the police do it all the time, although presumably with technical support from Volvo themselves.

From what I can tell from mine (before I ripped aout the 17 kilometres of now surplus cabling) was that the police installed their own power feeds directly from the battery terminals.

However, they must have integrated some units into the cars original loom for things like headlight flashing.
