Has anyone colour coded thier 855? I mean the bumper tops & side 'lines'. I've got sum spare paint for my car & thought it may look nifty. Any pix or opinions?

I've recently done mine, doing the side rubbing strips is fairly easy and could be done over a weekend, however doing the bumpers takes a little longer if you want to do it properly. if you want to go down the whole colour coding route then I would suggest you also get yourself some V70 parts to speed up the process i.e. a set of door handles and a rear bumper.

If you need any advice on what to do let me know.

thanks for that matey, your car looks great! do i need a special type of primer? I know a place that i can get a set of side strips from, also the bumper tops (pennies allowing).

You need plastic paint adhesion promotor, then a decent filler primer, followed by whatever paint colour your car is. Spray on the adhesion promotor, wait for however long it says on the can(usually 20 mins), then spray with the filler primer, sand back to a flat surface with 600 grit wet and dry, then finally spray with your choice of colour. Also the rear bumper is not a two section one, you'd have to buy the whole rear bumper.

okey dokey, thanks I shall look into it deeper, let you know the outcome.

Do you think a Yellow T5 estate would look ££££ if it had V70 bumper / door handles and colour coding ?

Absobloodylutely!
Your car and mine are the same underneath. But if I had the choice I would take the Gul for it's looks everytime.

Tomcat
Monday 17th April 2006, 21:12
Mmm, I'll let you off then......Think you might be right about doing the gull, if in doubt get someone to do it on photoshop first..

Matt30462
Monday 17th April 2006, 21:18
Sorry Tomcat, crossed wires. My Olive would probably look better for a colourcoding, definately those bloody awful door handles. Would just look like a V70. Can't do it to a Gul though. The whole thing with a Gul is the outstanding looks.

Phew......... Yeah I gotta agree though.

Im not so sure u need worry m8...thinking about it, the majority of the car currently is of course Yellow, n that aint a problem! By colour coding (maybe with a little discretion here n there) it might look very slick indeed.
I'm always up for something a little different anyway so I'd just go with whatever u think looks the best, might turn out better than you think?
Does ur car have dark wheels, I say this cos I think that combo, light or bright paintwork n dark wheels works really well...IMHO

Not that bad FFS!!! Just cos you are used to it with black on it ....As T5Slave says , abit of detailing and it might look good ..... it is off the road at the end of April now anyway ...off to coachworks to be stripped to the bones, windows out, doors off etc and painted top to toe, under wheelarches , everything, taking all the lead based paint off and doing it in fresh 2 pack , tints getting taken off and want to put Titans back on. Marshall Volvo have kindly agreed to supply all the fiddly clips, seals , rubbers etc as local Volvo dealer thought it too much hassle to look it all up and price, so i will end up with a perfect Volvo . I once ' concoursed ' an RS Turbo and swore i would never do it again but have tried to sell it with no luck and TBH i would love to see a show condition Volvo T5-R. The RS Turbo was about originality and so will this however i will have a couple of power mods but main one i would like is to alter the interior to 850R spec as i think the seats look and feel much better . There will be lots of in progress pics as i do it tho :)

Wow......good luck with that, I've been to a few concourse events in my time and to say that the level of detail is breathtaking would be an understatement. Its not going to be much of an everyday car afterwards though is it?.

I will not go to out and out concourse level as the upkeep is extreme, I will go to street class, the car will be painted inside and out underneath too in yellow, engine and ancillaries all replaced, cleaned etc, brakes lines polished and fuel lines the same and after that just intent on it being spotless and showroom looking, the interior is going to be the hard bit ... after that dry days will be the only time it will be out .

I think I'm correct in saying keep you spray gun in the cupboard. The car loses allit's character and becomes all wishy-washy girlie.

You are defo right....it doesnt lend itself to being all colour coded!!! What about if all the grey plastics were done in shiny anthracite ( same colour as the wheels.......? ) :hidesbehi

The Tangerine one was discussed a while back but having thought about it it would be a sacrilidge so if it is still with me at the end of teh month it will be done in yellow but will concentrate on detailing...but tell you what ..i like the wheels on Barberecpw effort..did you photoshop them on or do you know what they are ?

.....NOW TO BE BANNED FROM THIS PLACE ....

If you want to colour code your car go for it. You shouldn't have to back down just because it ain't to someone else's tastes. Do what you want to do.

I like individualised cars and I like the look of a colour coded 850...
I can't really say too much I cut a big hole in the front of mine....

BTW did you just powder coat the wheels? I am thinking or Anthracite or Gloss Black for my columbas. Its white 855 with Privacy Glass. Would it look good?

If you like the look......GO FOR IT..!!!!. and don't let one tell you otherwise...

I didn't plan to powder coat mine white, it was a bit of an impulse decision when I dropped them off. Just beware the the coatings are very soft when new (or warm, so I've heard) so the edges will probably be chipped when they fit your new tyres, so make sure you tell them to be careful with them.
