Well saturday I made the 1 1/2 hour journey to pick my new C70 T5 up. Handed my money over and at last got the keys to the beast.

I have been so impressed by the cars speed and quality of build and I can tell I'm going to love owning it.

Ive got a specialist near me to undertake a full service and fix the niggly bits and pieces that need doing. Then I'll be enjoying the experience even more.

Ive already relocated the horns-removed the mesh from the maf unit and fitted Denso Iridium plugs.

pics??

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. You've obviously been listening to Steve otherwise why would you remove the MAF screen :slap:

Enjoy - it sounds like you will be!!

no pics as yet.

the maf screen puts a restriction in the air inlet system. Obviously restricting air in to the engine means you must be compromising some power (either bhp or torque). doing this on my 820 Vitesse had no ill effects and when combined with the extra inlets to the airbox actually improved throttle response.

It didn't cost anything and can easily be put back in if required.

I'm guessing your against removing the maf screen then Dave?

Hi Darkster,

I'm against it too. Isn't it there for a reason i.e. as a filter?

darkstar

thats what the air filter is there for. If debris has got through the filter then a bit of mesh is probably not going to stop it either.

I have run a maf screen free car before with no problems.

bit pointless really - that's all. (IMHO). It may have some effect if you were running some ridiculous amount of power - but I dont believe it is a restriction. My previous C70 ran 340/350bhp fine with it in. But seeing as you have done it now... fair play. It will not add anything to the car but neither will it harm it.

But if people never tried things out then we would all be driving the same car with the same 'tried and tested' mods.

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

and it is free :)

MAF screen is there to create the right sort of turbulence or lack of it for the MAF sensor. Put it back!!! LOL

I know the reason for it being there but is actually does nothing as demonstrated by the fact that Ive removed it and the car is still running fine.

This is the third car ive done it on and none of them have had any problems.

I can understand people being scared and not wanting to deviate from what Volvo originally produced but the fact is that unless people actually tried things you guys wouldn't be running around with 19t's and Rica 310 maps etc...... someone had to experiment with them once upon a time!

I'm not saying that people automatically hit on a working product or mod straight away but from trying things you can decide what does/doesn't work for yourselves.

experimentation is advancement.

The Saint - I bought the car from a guy in Hertfordshire. It was in Autotrader last sunday. Ive got a feeling that from your location you may have had this car pop up if you did autotrader search. I think its still on there!

Im loving it so far. The only gripe is that the brakes need doing NOW. So ive ordered the bits and I'll do it tomorrow night.

Oh and its a manual which is a bonus.

@The Saint.- I can't set up a link to Autotrader so Ive just cut and pasted the text of the advert instead. When I get some time and the cars been polished and waxed then I'll take some proper photos!

The light metallic Gold is a great car but a bit challenging colour wise.

I didn't pay that much Wobbly Dave!

Its got a small dink on the rear bumper which will need paint soon but overall I'm very happy with the car and am happy Ive moved from the BMW. Heres a pic of my old car (which did drive very nicely) on a sunny sunday morning:

Its a shame that the E36 is looking so dated now - the design and interior of the C70 is so much more modern (the bimmer was a 1997 BTW).

I did see that one, yes, but like Dave, it was a little more than I wanted to pay. It looks a corker though, so well pleased for you.

There's another black one on eBay at the moment which has been in Autotrader ever since I've been looking. Again, it's slightly over my price (I think it's now £6700 but started at about £7100) but the starting bid was £4K, so I've now bid for it (come to think of it, I've never bid that much before!!).
