Hi chaps am looking at an 1996 850R with 118,000 manual.
The people who are selling it tell me the Lander light comes on (?) a specialist looked at it and code 232 came up which is Long Term Fuel Trim Idle?
They said that if you dont put Super Unleaded in it it wont come on.
Any thoughts on this?
Also the service light is on.
Many Thanks and would welcome any info on what to look for on these T5R's.
Am a technician so do know most bits, but not a Volvo specialist.
Cheers Neil.

Lamda light...I have the same thing on my 95 T5R ...Been on for ages...the fault code 2-3-2 means is ‘ running to rich or too lean at idle ‘, it was reset but came on later ...i put super unleaded in mine and it hasnt went out ...

Not sure about the "don't run it on super unleaded" advice. Sounds more like an O2 sensor or vacuum leak kind of problem.

99% its an air leak somewhere, there are a few common ones that always go and cause this, and if thats the only code there is, you've had a result :)

The long term fuel trim issue is usually caused by the legendary split elbow on a breather. There are loads of threads on it. That car will be running richer than a playboy in a Monaco casino!

If it is not the elbow then like J said - it will be an airleak somewhere.

SUL fuel has naff all to do with it. Some specialist :slap:

The split elbow is not a serious problem and quite easy to fix - just a bit fiddly. However you are not gonna tell them that. Say it is a serious engine fault but if they knock 300 off the price then you might consider helping them out. (part cost about 3 quid) - chip'em as hard as you can!!
