View Full Version : Ten grand for an 850R?

Filling up with petrol yesterday and a mouth-watering charcoal 850R drove in with a for sale sign in the back.

I asked the chap about it - it's totally standard, engine never been breathed on, 120k miles, full history from Volvo and specialists. Car was wearing fancy alloys but he has the originals.

He says he's open to offers but the sign in the car said £10,000! Now, I'm quite new here and I've only just started looking for an 850R/T5R, but this seems a tad dear. I would have started the bidding at half that. What do people think?

He says he wants to sell it asap! Is it just me or would other people feel silly offering him half the asking price?

I have his mobile number if anyone wants to phone for more info. The owner isn't on the net, so can't email pictures. Car is in Somerset, so I could view on behalf of someone...?

Sure it's not 1000.00 ?

Yeah I'm with you - you'd feel really cheeky offering the real value of the car!

Its a shame he isn't on the net cos then maybe he'd realise what the realistic value of the car is. Its not even low milage!

I reckon if it had just 20-50 k on the clock then maybe 10k, 4500- 7000 max is more realistic!

Sure it's not 1000.00 ?

I remember nearly falling over when I saw the price, and it wasn't a 1000 pound car. But you've got me worried.... I'll txt him......

Mine was £4995 (bought Feb 04) with 131K on the clock - FVSH upto 120K

The man is strangely deluded if he thinks he'll get 10K for his.

you guys and moppy make me wonder about mine, i paid £7,500 for it with a no quibble warrenty ( "any thing goes wrong, take it to volvo and then they will send me the bill" ) for the first 12 months to the value of the purchase price..........

but £10,000 seems a tad on the high side to me.

To be fair tho Mr P you got a cracking deal with your T5R - I have never known a Trader agree to what yours has!!! I think I would have been prepared to pay a little over the odds for the sort of warranty your getting!!

And have taken advantage of it already:

1) Central locking on fuel filler flap

2) New motor in passenger door mirror and new heating element

3) Turbo oil return seals.

All done by volvo and at no cost to me. was given a S40 1.8 SE for the day aswell.

Anybody want to buy a car from this man then take a look at www.staplehurstcarsales.co.uk

You don't happen to know what work was involved in the central locking fuel filler flap do you? Mine doesn't work (open all the time) so am thinking it broke and the emergency cord was pulled. Would like to repair myself if possible, but am thinking a new motor is more likely.

That car's on eBay.

If you take off the value of the plate you've got a pretty cheap car.

You think? Personally i wouldn't touch it! For a start just tinkering with the turbo wont make it any faster as such - the ecu is still stock!! It has THE most ridiculous shameful and barryesk spot lights!!! the interiors is tatty and whats with the red rubbing strip on the tailgate????? The overall look is poor!! It has a set of "I have a small do dar" brakes which are completely not necessary for 285bhp (not sure where he has that figure from - where is the dyno reading if it has been prefessionally tuned!) and a "boost valve" WTF - its been bastardised - bad news!

Just my opinion btw!

I completely agree with you. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I meant to say in my last post that it was rather too cheap!
