View Full Version : Fuel filler cap hinge broken

So my saturday started off with that well intentioned plan to wash the car.

Decided to start with the inside, which was just as well as it started raining :(

So gave up on the exterior today and went to do tyre pressures. As I moved the car on the drive way, I got the brake bulb failure message!

Ok, I thought, I'll check my Volvo bulb pack, which turned out not to contain a brake light bulb.

Anyway. I digress. I eventually find the air pump and quickly go to remind myself of the pressures (don't know why, I know them anyway!!)

Flick open fuel filler cap and it falls on the ground. Along with two plastic bits from the hinge.

So anyway, I've had a bit of a poke around in the boot and behind the rear seats and I can't get to the screws holding it in place. I suspect that I'll need to remove the trim in the wheel arch to get to it.

Has anyone had this happen before? And does anyone know how to fix it, or how much a dealer would charge? I've only just paid for a 3yr service, mot and insurance, so as you'd expect, my car fund is on the low side at the moment.

Any input appreciated. Cheers.
