View Full Version : Oil preference

Is there a general preference for oil to suit a 2.0 turbo engine, or would semi synthetic 10/40 do. The reason I ask is that when I called a local fast fit place the bloke suggested I check as the s/s was the only oil they had and it might not be recommended for a turbo.
Thanks
Chris

Hi,

Have a wee look at the manual, should tell you in there. :) Shouln't matter if it's S\S or fully synthetic, think F\S just offers more protection - just need to check the weight would have thought the garage would have known though.

Mines is non-turbo but I use Mobil1, which my local quick-fit place sells cost £33 to change.

I can get anyone some semi 10/40 at a very good price ,approx £7 for 5 litres should they want any.Obviously i would need to take to a meet rather than deliver lol. :)

My local quik-fit are more or less the same as your shop.

They say that if the car has 50k or more they don't advise using fully synthetic if its the first time its been used in the engine as it can cause problems. Mines had about 38k at the time so I just moved to Mobil1 then. However, is it safe to continue using Mobil1 past the 40k mark or should I go back to some semi syn type?

If Its Running Ok On Mobil 1 And Not Smoking Then It Should Be Ok I Would Consider Goin To 10w40 Semi About The 60-70k Mark

There is only one IMHO, just choose the viscosity.

There is a train of thought that says a cars engine will not run in correctly on fully synth. - Would you go with this? - My T5 has 20k on the clock, I fully intend to keep it until it has 100+k on the clock.

I has always had fully synth main dealer oil, I was thinking of changing to 'Mobile 1' though.

I think my local stealer uses Shell Helix somethingorother...

Us main stealers do use shell helix 0w40 fully syn but it wont hurt if you do want to change to mobil 1 or castrol rs full syn and it does not make any difference to running it in
