Hi boys and girls,

I had a boost gauge in my last T5 and am thinking of getting another for this one. Any suggestions on a good boost gauge? I had an Autometer last time.

Also I had a really crap pod for it, but this time would like a really nice pillar pod, any suggestions on where to get one for our cars??

A got mine from Drivers in Glasgow, http://www.drivers-glasgow.co.uk/driversframes.html

Its a universal fit, cost bout £20 n never needed any cutting or shaping, just 1 screw 2 hold it in place, Cant actually get a "Volvo" fitment pod a dont think, Dunno how good the Half*rds jobbies are

I don't understand why people go for dodgy graphite looking pods, which bear no resemblance to their interior whatsoever (Edit: sorry Fraz, that comment isn't aimed at you - just people in general) ... so much nicer to go for the OEM IMHO. It's easy enough to do, and will only take a matter of a few hours.

Pick up a pod with roughly the shape you want
Drill and screw on to your a-pillar
Add body filler and sand down to taste. Add more filler and sand it some more if necessary
Trim in OEM colour vinyl

Job done :)

thats what i did with my original pod mount, but as the trim is just textured plastic its alot better/easier to just match the original colour with car paint & re-spray the completed thing

Pedro - yep, if you get a good enough finish on the filler, paint would be the way to go I guess. You should be able to find a closely matching (texture and colour) vinyl though. The paint finish would have no texture to it.
I plan on doing mine with vinyl when I put my tweeters there. If I can't get a close colour match, I'll use any old colour vinyl, then spray it with a colour match probably :)

Thanks for the info on the pod guys, since posting I have been looking @ Defi gauges, any one have any experience of these? I am now considering a double pillar pod, so where can i get one of them, mightwant air/fuel gauge as well.

Im just lazy and dont want any extra work/holes so I just plumb mine in now and then to check that its still holding and getting reasnoble levels of boost.

+ I always can do a quick plumb in other cars as we did on the rolling road day!

with a little work i managed to get a RGM mouldings (brought through Halfords) double pod intended for a Citroen Saxo to fit reasonably well

as for the air/fuel gauge you'll need another lamba sensor fitting into your exhaust, if you connect the signal wire to the original it sends the idle all over the place (& Volvo use there own sensors which are £160  )

Hi

Same here - Parts on line jobbie :

http://chriswhiteuk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Volvo/boost.jpg

I've also found out that there is an "accessories plug" in the drivers footwell - this outputs 12v, headlight on/pff signal and rheostat feed !!

Chris where abouts is this mate, couldnt take a photo could ya??

I was wondering about having it wired up the the dash brightness controls so it adjusts with the dash light level

I don't know ! Only found out AFTER fitting the boost gauge !

I spliced in the lighting to the rheostat - use a multimeter to select the correct cables that dim.

Dont waste your time with an AFR guage, unless you get a proper wide band lambda fitted to the exhaust, it's only going to add decoration. Using normal OE lambda sensors like all cars have isnt any good, and I certainly wouldnt rely on one to tell me how the engine was fuelling. If you are after another guage to fit in the pod, oil temp or oil pressure is a much better bet in my opinion.

you can't wire the AFR off the existing lamba anyway because it messes all the idle/ecu about

Yes I noticed you mentioned that happens on the Volvos, however, people might try buying a univerasl lambda and having it tapped into the exhaust, which isnt good enough, needs to be a proper wide band one.

Delivery is not very quick at the moment as one of their staff is on holiday and after chasing my order last week i was told it could be two weeks before it was sent
