View Full Version : Looking for a C70 right now!!

The Saint

Hi all,

I am currently in the process of selling my Impreza (RB5) and looking for a C70 T5 coupe. My first hurdle is finding a manual one (as 90% seem to be automatics!) and one that hasn't had any accident damage.

One thing I need to consider is I have an 18mth old son and whilst he only tends to come in the car at weekends (as my wife does the nursery runs during the week!) I need something with a boot size reasonable enough to take his buggy. Has anyone by any chance got a photo of their C70 boot they could post, or indeed is anyone in my position and can vouch for buggies going in easily. Any comments would be really appreciated.

I'll be looking to chip it and improve handling and brakes, but that will be it. I've spent too much money on my RB5 to want to go through all that again!!

The boot can be a pain in the arse as it's got that lip on the top. Shouldn't have too much problem with a buggy though.

The GT option "can" come with the electric seats. Not sure if it's the same on the manual ones but even when it's pushed right forward it's difficult to get anything bulky into the back past the door and the frame.

You may want to take a bulky child seat long with you on a test drive :D
Unless the child will always be in the front.

Booster seats aren't a problem though.

Cars are built like bricks so no worries on the health and saftey front.

Hi mate, saw an RB5 today, lol around Heathrow.

Where abouts in Surrey are you ? You are welcome to probe mine.

Please ensure you know the new law about child seats [as of March 2006 i think]. No children under 11 can go in the front of a car i think, and have to be in a safety seat. Do check for sure though........

My little man will always be in the back in his 9mth - 4yrs car seat - your comments (the_boy) are noted though and I will try his car seat when I go for a test drive in one.

Saffron C70 - not many RB5's about (444 made, of which about 400 left) and I know a few guys from the surrey area with them - I'm down in Reigate. I know of one guy near the Heathrow area, so it might have been him.

C7- will be more than capable of carrying a buggy. I know this coz I owned one (until I planted it in a field)

Thanks for the comments re buggy - I've now seen inside a C70 boot and certainly his will go in there okay.

Not much room for the 'dump trips' at the weekend - will have to take the wife's car!!

go to the dump in your car "how dare you"

i take hers its cheaper and i dont care about leaving her car full off twigs and rubbish because shes a car abuser and doesnt even check oil.tyres .etc she just gets in a turns the key

I've got 2 kids, 4 year old and 3 year old. I've had the car for 2 years and its fine. The seats are electric and are a pain, however your technique is soon adapted to suit.

No problems with buggy's. car seats sit snug in back and the kids look VERY well protected in regards to height of body against the windows and the general "car" amount around them

Found a '99 Garnet Red one (the colour I am after) with 66K miles on the clock. Drove 100 miles to see it and it was a pile of poo. Drivers seat looked like it had done 250K miles and had a big crease down the off-side rear wing. Engine was great, but really shabby interior. The creae down the wing put me off - I can't help thinking it's a difficult colour to match!

Haven't put the scoob up for sale yet - I'm waiting for the transfer pack from the DVLA to remove my private plate. Should be going up in the coming weeks I guess.

Top one is not a T5 - it's a 2.4 NASP.

Second one is asking top dollar for 130K 8 year old car. Plus that is the blackest grey I ever saw (namely it is black) - non ME7 with all the toys (some not working). £3500 tops.

Not keen on either - mostly coz I want ME7.

Just been given details of a blue one (V plate) manual with 79K on the clock, which is fine.
It doen't have the speaker in the centre of the dashboard, so is this the standard set-up without the amp? Was it 10 speakers as standard?

Thanks.

Dont think its the GT model then, but, who knows with the specs on these :slap: It wont be the pro logic system, probably just the 8 speakers!

I saw the 4th one down last weekend as was disappointed - the engine was fine but the bodywork was awful.

http://www.fish4.co.uk/iad/cars/advert?adId=7988736&sid=8019727AEC4C835764&pos=8&src=search&tot=26

Reasonable mileage ME7 car, safe colour for resale - Money seems about right for the mileage too. I reckon you'd be able to get that for about 5.7K and it looks like it has the 1/2 suede interior too. I paid 5650 for the black one last July (with 81K).

Hot of the press (Auto Trader press that is)

This one looks promising
http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_search.asp?modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&make=VOLVO&model=C70&variant=t5&keywords=2000+manual+blue&min_pr=75&max_pr=8000&mileage=&agerange=&postcode=b31+2ra&miles=1500&max_records=50&source=0&photo=1&sort=3&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCH

and if you were prepared to accept 100K (bit long in the tooth) there is this GT version
http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_search.asp?modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&make=VOLVO&model=C70&variant=t5&keywords=1999+manual+blue&min_pr=75&max_pr=8000&mileage=&agerange=&postcode=b31+2ra&miles=1500&max_records=50&source=0&photo=1&sort=3&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCH

Be sure it is a GT though (electric motor memory seats) - it could be a GS - IMHO a better car as they are cheaper to insure and dont have annoying electric seats. Look to pay about 5200 for that car.

The Saint
Tuesday 4th April 2006, 09:11
Thanks for the links Dave.
I can't get into the Fish4 website, but will keep trying.
The black one has too many miles (and 5 previous owners) but the blue one does look promising. Right miles, right price and only 2 previous owners (last change of owner 11/02). It doesn't have the pro-logic system, but I've asked for further photos before I commit to the journey.

I really appreciate the effort you guys go to to let me know when something comes available. The more I see, the more I know what I'm after! Number one colour is still the garnet red, with silver and black coming in 2nd and 3rd place. MUST be manual and the dolby prologic system is preferable!

Wobbly Dave
Tuesday 4th April 2006, 09:18
I wouldnt overly worry about the pro-logic. The standard car has a 4x400 watt amplifier and 10 speakers and is excellent - just go try one. Just make sure it has the SC-901 3 CD cassette changer (as it is the best head unit). Most do.
Dark colours or Silver are the easiest to re-sell. Ultimately you want a good solid example - based on Age, Condition and Mileage. Dont get too hung up on spec.

Bottom Me7 car is about the money looks well cared for. May not have all the toys you want, but looks interesting from Age/Mileage/Condition for that price.

I have inspected this car ...

2000 VOLVO C70 2.3 T5,
61000 miles, Manual, Metallic Gold, leather, 12 months MOT, PAS, Cruise, Climate, airbags, new F1s, ABS, R.C.L, EW, EM, multi CD, Alarm/Immobiliser, FVSH - mint, no canvassers. £6,000. ono. andylane.home@virgin.net

it is owned by a policeman (police driver and genuine Volvo enthusiast) -very nice bloke. Only issue is the car is pale gold.
The car is in superb condition - has all the toys - it might be a bit of a challenge with the colour though. I nearly bought it but then changed my mind (and I offered him £6200). Decided I couldnt live with the colour
