Friday 3rd March 2006, 11:37
I am organising a rolling road day on Saturday 29th April 2006 at our premises in Bromsgrove. We have 20 spaces available and the price of the ticket is £35.00 inclusive of VAT, I will be providing food and tea/coffee for those who would like to try my cooking http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/ekelig/a015.gif - it will be something simple like a b-b-q and salads.

The day will be split up into 2 sessions, starting at 09:30 till 13:30 then some lunch and then 14:00 till 17:30. Families are welcome but you must abide by the health and safety policies we run at the premises. http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/muede/n025.gif.

Bookings need to be secured with full payment in advance to save on extra admin on the day (I will be too busy cooking!!!!). Please ensure your car is good running order, if not we have the right to not run your car.

For more information on our new and accurate rolling road go to this link http://www.volvotuninguk.com/Disclaimer_-_This_web_site_is_not_affiliated_with_Volvo_Car_Co rporation/frames.asp.
Print of the disclaimer form and fill in all relative information and bring with you.

Any bookings try and go through me as Hamish and Adam are really busy at the moment, you can email me at natalie@chiptuninguk.com.

I might have to make an appearance although my car is a little poorly ive lost 12 mph somewhere(discovered last saturday night) Im hoping this is down to poor quality optimax from my local and need of a good service. So may need to book her in before hand for some checks!

Hamish could I have a top speed run instead of a BHP and Torque run?

It would be nice to run the Dragon but somehow i doubt it will be ready seeing as there is still a bent C70 taking roots in our garage!!!!!

I'll prob come up with Shaun850, not sure about rolling it yet though, don't seem much point, Shaun had his RR'd at 250+ bhp and i reckon mine's about the same. I might just RR when I get the RICA done, but still need to do that bloody clutch first!

As for the dyno, it couldn't car less what car is on there. It's a dyno. It measures power. It has no feelings!!! :)

At the moment, I'm afraid so. I am hoping my dyno will not break with the tremendous force that will be exerted on it from those spectacular rods, which incidently will move up and down in rhythmic harmony like it was created by some mystical force.

OK guys

You can pay on the day, no probs with that, just make sure you either pay by card or have the correct amount of cash on you as my petty cash change is in short supply.

The food has been purchased and anyone who would like to turn up for the social you are most welcome, all we ask is that you park your cars either on the main road or gas street so we can easily move cars in and out. For those who are coming for a social and not running, you are welcome to eat lunch with us and if you would like to put a donation in the lunch box I won't stop you :remybussi

Hi all, are there any spaces left?? and is there any set running order for the day?? Is it in the order of arrival?

Its all a bit up in the air at the moment, but i should be up in the general area on saturday as i'm helping someone fit a gearbox and quite fancy giving the old 740 Turbo one last run on the dyno before i switch over to Megasquirt.

If so i'll head up early so i can get it rolling roaded and then head off to spend the rest of the day on my back benchpressing gearboxes.

Hi all, are there any spaces left?? and is there any set running order for the day?? Is it in the order of arrival?

Yes there will be spaces they usually run until they've ran out of motors. Pay on the day. The last one I attended it was a case of sticking your name down on a piece of paper as you arrived and that's the order you ran in.

Well after an interesting drive down to VT (I will leave the explanation to someone else Moppy)there was a good turn out today my car was having a bit of an off day though and only made 244.34 bhp at the wheels with a torque reading of 398.62 might be time for a new turbo. But the new smart car was quite impressive making 85.03 bhp and 120.04 torque so i had one goor result. Thanks to all at VT for making me feel welcome yet again and for the fantastic food, highlight of the day for me was the music dont you think Adam:haha:

Well we all had a great day, i will post the dyno charts up in a minute for all to see.

Food and company were excellent, all of the cars ran well, no problems :)

My S70R produced 255 @ the wheels after the actuator was adjusted, with new leads dizzy and rotor needed causing power loss at around 4500rpm. When done later this week i expect 265 @ the wheels :)

Just to put that into perspective my car has the rica 310 map, Lab monkeys V70R P2 made 258 bhp @ the wheels and that car is 300bhp as stock. So if mine makes over 262 bhp its hitting the claimed mark :)

Rich, the music grew on me (pardon the pun)!!! lol Very amusing :)

It should see over 270 @ wheels once it's fixed as the power was climbing very smoothly until the ignition broke down. But we will see!

Not at all - don't forget we have a 100 mph fan!!!!

Nat

the speed of your fan, is important, but 100mph fan blowing warm air, is not good.

it will be!, i dont think today is the best day for a dyno run, too hot!, leading to poor figs and unhappy peeps

Sorry Mike, didn't realise you are the world expert on Dyno testing.

Today was actually 5 degrees cooler than the norm for this time of year. So does that mean in your eyes that we should only run our dyno in the winter ? You were trying to stir up a tuning war last week and it looks to me like your trying again. Perhaps you should have come along today, we ran a '03 V70R that produced the power. A dyno day is not about winners and loosers, it's about meeting up and and enjoying the company of like minded people. It's not about whether your S60R produces 5 BHP more than my T5, because trust me it doesn't.

Regards,
Hamish.

Ambient temps definately make a difference, both on the dyno and on the road. I think the point Nat is making is that with a very large fan the cars get a half decent chance of performing well on the dyno compared to using a smaller fan. We found in the past that using the small fan can lose 20 bhp.

I will admit that on the hottest days in summer, even this fan struggles to keep the charge temps down, but then again the performance on the road suffers too.

is there a flywheel stat, approx fig??

if u work out transmission loss's on labmonkeys R, call it 300bhp, then that at works out at a 14% trans loss, which is very good, i thought 4wd would be higher, unless it was fwd mode only, some fuseing pulling going on! lol

but thats a good result for the R, it producing what it should be, good news, being such a warm day, if it was colder, more power would have been had for everyone

do u think i could be??, i might consider a job change!

funny u should mention having dyno's in winter only, cos guess wot!, there's a tuner in scotland, that has stopped doing rolling road shoot outs/meets in the summer, causes too many problems, peeps getting lower figs, etc, peeps getting upset etc, etc

thats excellent news concerning the 03 v70r, making its 300bhp, that should shut the doubting toms up!

im sure your t5 does have more power, but on a wet day and throw some twistys, u might have some probs!

Saturday 29th April 2006, 18:50
Mike, the other thing you have to remember is that a dyno day is precisely that - a dyno day, and not a tuning day. There were cars today that did have problems, but if so be it. As Hamish says, it's more of a social event.

Justin's car was a classic example of how some problems became very apparent, but he was more interested in playing some gay music for my entertainment!!! lol :)

Adam, what were all these problems that everybody was experiencing?

Who knows! That's what I mean when I say a dyno day is not a tuning day, and neither is it a diagnoistics session because without further tests it's impossible to say what problems a car has.

But if you look at Justin's graph (http://www.volvot5.co.uk/volvogallery/displayimage.php?album=237&pos=2), it appears that the ignition is breaking down suddenly. Everything is super smooth up until 4500 rpm and then it goes all ££££ty. But I'm only guessing as to what the problem might be. It's an educated guess though cos his dizzy cap and rotor are still original. ;)

Tim's rev counter was going all over the place so I suspect a dodgy rpm sensor, and his brakes appeared to be binding too on one of the runs (a problem he's had before), but again, it's just assumptions - needs further investigating!!!

Cracking day, started well even before we got there. Drove down in convoy with J and Viking, some numpty in a chav'd up polo decided he wanted my road space so (wen the middle lane was clear) I asked him politely to move over (lol) I dont think he liked the fact that a flat cap and slippers mota was going past him like he was going backwards and he made rude gestures at me when I went by........I dont think he accounted for Viking behind me tho who promptly pulled along side him, wound his window down and made it very clear that rude gestures are not accepted to a lady LMSO!!! Turns out the Polo driver wasn't quite so brave then!!

Anyways, Nat started the bar-be at half ten after much pressure from some of the boys who only think of their tummy's (lol) and it was fab!! I even ate salad which is very unlike me!!!

Ruthless made 246 @ the wheels and 417nm with a 280 map  which was pretty pleasing, she will be going back for the full fat map mind you and we hope to find another 20-30 bhp in her!!

The most impressive of the day (personally) was Chesh's 740 which is running 230 @ the wheels!! Sounds fab too, spitting flames :)

Good to see old faces, great to meet some new ones too!

Thanks to all that made the effort, especially those that had a fair bit of travelling!!

See you all soon!

just looking at labmonkeys graph, quite interesting, how volvo say peak power should be at 5500rpm, but in reality its actual 5900approx it makes full power, very interesting, anyone know why this maybe?

who had a 310 rica map?

Made a nice change!!! Last time I drove a 740 was when my old man owned a GLT years ago. But this one was a little scarier :) And the car made it's feelings to hamish quite clear!!

Thanks for the great day and the kind comments regarding my old 740, i was very happy with its results, this day has definatley spured me on to finish the project and get it producing even better numbers, as i know theres plenty more to come from the engine with more boost and fuel added in.

Big thanks to Hamish, Adam, Little Bear and Nat for a great day - was very chilled with a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Was very pleased with my results (242whp/346Nm) particularly as the torque curve was very flat

I was running just an ITG and optimax with standard software.

Umpah lumpah music had me in stitches and we managed to fix Justin's dodgy ABS.

The sun shone and despite my raging hangover - I really enjoyed myself

A bit late on this one, have been very busy with family prob.
On the drive the down there was on odd time or two when I said to myself what are you doing this for, my question was answered on arrival at VT, as soon as I saw the smiling faces and all the motors.
Had a great few hours chatting, & watching/listening to the motors on the rollers.
The food off the BBQ was top.:007:
I wish I could have stayed longer.:B_steerin
Thinking of aquiring a second motor just so I can run it on the rollers.:haha:
