me again
still chasing oil liss...

have had the oil changed and thankfully he didnt try and charge me
got home did a comression test

does anyone know if this seems about right

ran 1-5 left to right 5 being nearest the gearbox

1 145
2 150
2 160
4 145
5 150

also notices the plugs look very odd
but have only allegedly done 10k miles

now if i remember rightly this sort of deposit means oil ??

and the electride is like a point ???? never seen one like that plugs are ngk bkr7evx.... has the tosser at the garage put in the wrong plugs????

The plug is correct! The tip is designed that way.

As to the condition, well I'm no plug expert but it doesn't look right to me!

looks a bit ash fouled
which i would expect from the blue smoke
so if compression is ok this pretty much rules out the rings right??

so i guess we possibly looking towards the valve steam seals or guides

dammnit

From doing the same tests last year I know that the t5 engine is supposed to be between 11 and 13 bar

Please read this discussion that was had about the long term future on my 855R

I have always used BKR7EVX or the NGK Iridiums in my T5s. I have to say that the first time I saw them I was a bit freaked. The gap should be 0.8mm

Try this...
Get all the plugs out, then do the compression test thing on each cylinder, giving it about 5sec on the starter. Leave the gauge in and see if the reading is dropping. It will, but should do this very slowly. If the reading drops so fast you can see the compression tester gauge needle move, then it's either the rings or the valves that are not sealing too well.

Quick hack to tell which. Squirt some engine oil into the bore, just enough to run round the top of the piston (don't over do this, oil won't compress!!). Repeat the compression test. If there's no change in how fast the pressure drops off then it's the valves that need a re-grind. If the pressure drops off a lot slower, then it's the rings. Idea behind this is you improve the seal round the piston rings by smothering them in oil, and see if there's a difference.

Having said all that I think the variation in readings you are seeing between cylinders is a bit high, which might be a head gasket issue.

Oh, and you'll get industrial quantites of smoke out the back for a short while when you restart the engine!

lol probably something to do with excess oil maybe lol

gonna give it another go in the morning

from what i have heard a 10% variaton across the cylinders is ok
so 145 - 160 is ok ???

but then again so many different views

that would make it about 160-180 psi ??

eeeeks a bit low then

but then again so many different viewsNot trying to tell anybody to suck eggs, but make sure the throttle butterfly is wide open or your readings will be low, a cylinder leakage test is really the best test rather than a compression test as it can diagnose much more.

Hot or cold? if its f----d it will show up on both lol. Do yourself a favour and find a local specialist who knows what its about and get them to carry out a proper diagnosis could save you pounds in the long run, honest.

lol i have already spent £££££££££££££'s replacing the turbo on the advice of 'specialists' haha 3 seperate agarages and a main dealer

so time to live and learn a bit
after all if u dont try it you will never know for yourself
thats the beauty of forums innit heheh
you can pool brain cells

anyhow i have an inquisative mind

so no harm in havving an hours fun trying to diagnise it yerself

Point taken mate.

i think alot of them dont have common sense and are used to dealing with people who know nothing
but i had a suspicion it was the turbo myself

so i'm just double checking everything now

i dont think it is the rings but day after the new turbo puffs of blue smoke again !!!!!

however did notice he put 0w 30 oil in grrrrr so he changed that today
so i am hoping that that will have resolved it ... if that doesnt might try 15-40
