Aw uncle bracer, I have this leak on me 855 T5 and it's drivin me mad. It seems to be from the right hand (offside) of the engine and appears to be dripping from a point just in front of the 'ring' in the subframe. I can't get under it at the moment so can't pinpoint it. I was wondering if it may be from the front main seal or the turbo oil return pipe but I am not sure where the turbo pipe is in relation to the subframe. I have read on here that the turbo pipe is always suspect and wondered if that could be it. The bottom of the car is covered in oil so this is no indication although I am going to clean it all up when I get the chance. This is my first 850 as all my other Volvo's have been 2,7 and 9 series, I am not familiar with the tranverse one. I don't think it is a bad leak as it only uses about half a litre a week but it is annoying covering the drive and driving the wife mad, not to mention embarrasing. At first I though it was the oil filler cap or breather pipe and replaced these as there was a lot of oil around the plug holes on the ally plate. This is now sorted so I can rule that out. Any help would be great as I just don't know where to look. At least if I have an idea what to look for it is a start. hope you can help in some way bracer, Many thanks in advance. :worship:

So is it more on the end of the engine ie coming out the bottom of the cam belt housing or is it more to the rear of the engine.
If its the first then I think its the Cam Shaft seal as I had to have mine replaced for the same reason.
The turbo oil return feed give a leak down the back of the engine, and the oil filler cap leak also goes down the back and down in between the engine and gearbox making it look as if it was a rear main seal.

Thanks for that Bracer. It sounds more like the camshaft seal then as it is driping from the front side of the engine and not the middle or rear. I did think maybe it was the oil filter as I think that is in this area too but it was serviced recently by a competant guy so I would doubt it. i did think maybe it was the front crank seal too but until I get under I will not know for sure. aT least now I have some idea of where what to look for. Thanks. I will be glad to get rid of the burning oil smell too but that will take a while I know.

The front crank seals are very strong, so I edge my bets on the Cams, but its easy to see if you just remove the top half of the cam belf cover
Just as a note too, dont attempt to use the existing cam belt its not worth it, it may knock the service schedule out but whats more inportant the parts or the dates / millage :shifty:
