Hi any one help

I have a C70 with fly by wire Electronic Throttle Switch

Occsionally just lately it desn't kick down and the last couple of day the ETS warning light has been coming on. Does this mean it's knackered and on the way out or could it be Cleaned? Reset? or something not involving replacement.

Unlikely. The ETS problem usually manifests itself in the way you describe. Having taken one of these failed units apart I know where the problem lies. There is no recourse other than replacement. Once the ECU detects a ETS fault it will run the car in limp-home mode.

You should get the fault codes read first to confirm.

I just knew you were going to cheer me up.

Would you use a secondhand switch of a newish low miler? or do you think new is the only way to go?

First things first - you need a confirmation of the problem.
Then I think I would go the BBA-Reman route coz you can get a warrantee on the part and I think they are cheaper than Volvo (dont quote me). It is an unfortunate draw back to the ME7 engine.

Does the C70 have a self diagnostics like the 850's used to have?

No - you will need to get the DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) read through the OBDII port (in the arm rest) - which is a job for the Dealership/Indie/Aftermarket laptop jobbie.
