Morning all,

had a 3 year service done on Friday (at 24k miles) and first MOT at a volvo dealership. All went smoothly and they said I had a "very healthy car". Which is nice.

Anyway, I got talking to the service rep guy about mods and I asked what they do at the dealership. He said they'll do anything except ECU remaps.

The reason is this. Now my car is nearly out of warranty (tomorrow actually), it goes on to a Contributory Warranty scheme or something. So in theory, if something goes wrong on Wednesday, Volvo would pay a proportion of the cost. However, he says that as soon as you (a) have an ECU remap or (b) have the car serviced by anyone other than a main dealer (ie. not even a specialist), then the contributory scheme is void.

Can anyone confirm if either of these are true? Are there any Volvo dealers out there who will actually perform a remap and maintain the contributory scheme?

It probably wouldn't worry me too much, however, my car has had a fair bit done under warranty, and there's a note on the system regarding my rear shocks (long story) saying that Volvo will pay a good chunk towards them when they need replacing, probably next year.

Any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers.

If you dont tell them - how will they know? I would ring VT as they are the experts when it comes to ECU remaps

I was thinking when they come to do the test drive at the service? I would hope a remap would be noticable :)

If i were you i would disclose everything, It's ok when things are in your favour, but what about when the crap hits the fan, people read these sites and the insurance engineers are experts as well, if you have anything on your car which shouldn't be there and they find out, then you will be paying for it for a long long time,

Like I said - if you dont tell anyone - how will they know?

I would also hope that the service peeps are not ragging your car when the come to service it??

However I am not recommending any course of action as I am no expert in these matters. It is just my opinion that I believe that certain remaps are undetectable.

thanks everyone.

Obviously, I would tell the insurance company. I was just wondering whether the service rep was correct regarding the warranty.

I'll give PW a call. Thanks Adam.

Cheers.
