Found a blown hose on lady today (day before she gets sold no less).

I have enclosed some pictures for help from someone please.

The first picture shows what I found:

Now that foam padding was removed and revealed the following

The thin plastic type hose was just slid into the rubber hose, can't believe it should there be something else there?

Thanks

Andy

p.s. im not selling the car on like that, no way which is why im asking for help now and i'll buy the part required in morning.

I seem to be obsessed by the PCV system on these cars!

The hose that snapped looks to be the one that goes from the PCV heater around to the end of the inlet manifold, by the PS pump. It usually sits in the rubber sleeving along with the larger diameter breather hose to the oil seperator. They get very brittle and snap easily.

It is the oil breather hose. Will cost an arm and a leg to leg to fix as the manifold has to come off. Had mine done a while back I think the bill was nearly 300!!!! :jaw:

see here for further info:

Whilst they have the manifold off get them to replace every pipe under there. Mine had all pipes but one replaced...guess which one sprung a leak!!!!

its the vac hose runs from the lhs of the inlet manifold back to the heater on the pcv system
u can buy this hosing from volvo its pennies and the rubber elbows .... and should be able to replace it without taking the manifold off
however its probably as well to replace the pcv sustem (crankcase breathers) and vac lines if they are brittle like that to snap
not a huge job and about £80 of parts from a main stealer

I did it muself in about 3 hrs and i'm no mechanic...worst bit is getting the bold off the inlet manifold bracket and off the dipstick tube bracket

or if its a 94 model tat pipe my run to the top of the rocker cover just by the top engine mount like this
having looked again at the foam cover and the length of it it looks a bit like mine

appologies if this is a bit big
im at work with no resizing tools

All I could see on my engine was this pipe...

I spliced mine together with 4mm silicone vac hose. But I also snapped the bigger one underneath and found the green hoselock garden hose fits really nice.

Apparantly the parts from volvo are about £80.

One end fits on the end of the inlet manifold. The end elbow is a common thing to break. You'll see a variety of posts about this one..

I can't see where the other end attaches I'm assuming the air pipe... I shouldn't be too hard to replace with normal tubing, if the rubber elbows are in one piece..

Well whatever the hose was (the above has confused me somewhat) it has been fixed by my volvo man.

According to him I was loosing loads of boost and hes quite correct it pulls like a barsteward steam train now!

Don't wanna sell her.

Just to clear things up....

Look at this image...

http://www.brownyuk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/hose1.JPG

The Blue arrow indicates the Oil Breather hose (which is Fine)

The red arrow indicates the hose which needed replacing (which is now also fine)

It boosts alot harder now and it smooth!

god knows why my arrows dont work on the image.

Breather hose = large black hose underneath one which has been replaced which is the thin plastic looking one!

Thanks all for the help anyway it is much appreciated although to prevent confusing new members we need to clear this up somewhat.

Look at the picture T5tart posted with the pinky red arrow (much appreciated mate)

That is on the 1994 t5 engine and is exactly the same as mine.

The hose indicated was the one that needed replacing.

Why can't I be a Volvo mechanic instead of a bin man?

Thanks Mophead.

She isn't going far... i.e. 0 miles so she should be fine :)

p.s. I never broke her.
