when it gets to 2 ltrs on 1000 miles like mine and u have blue smoke start to worry
might be worth checking the crankcase breather system though

try doing a fresh oil change. then keep youe eye on it. when it gets a few miles on the oil , it does tend to use it.

Do not worry too much ---->top-up and keep checking regularly.

Mine did similar a couple of winters ago (approx 1l per 1K miles) , since then all is as expected.

Winter time and short journeys are also sometimes accompanied by "mayonnaise" on the dipstick, but not filler cap, again do not worry.

60,000 ml service on wednesday , so fresh oil = fresh start !
also this site is great , . ilike my rallying and am stuck in a time warp late 70s to early 80s , with vauxhall chevettes , and boy do i find it hard to get parts and info for an hsr chevette , so much so that i have had to start making parts !!, so finding this site for volvos , was like fresh air ,!
thanks once again.

SimonKeep your oil level inbetween min - max, it allows for expansion hence less oil consumption assuming engine in good nick. Mines just clocked 7000 mls since last oil change and only required half a pint of semi-synthetic 10W/40 at 6000 mls. Changing it this week for Redline.
