Hardware could be the same, the software is different and for Auto, there's another Control Unit. Altogether, there could be three in the plastic box - TRAC/ECU/AUTO. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong ....

Ok I will. lol
Yes the Engine ECU hard ware is the same and yes there is a seperate ECU that controlls the Auto box but the Engine ECU softare is different as its programmed to work with the Auto Box ECU.
The Tracts is part of the ABS ECU which is mounted on the passangers side of the engine bay and is linked back to the Engine ECU.
But the easyist thing to do is check to see if the ECU numbers match.
For example

And now My ECU Numbers

Hope this helps

Actually, the ECU hardware is also different for the autos, as well as the software. ie, an auto ECU has different hardware circuitry to the manual ECU.

I thought you could use an ecu from an auto on a manual car but not the other way around. Is this correct?
I'm talking matching models/years.
