I normally go into the dealer mentioning how I'm inbetween my servicing and that I'm really surprised a light's come on considering it's had 170,000 miles of volvo history (note the lack of "full"), and was wondering if you could just have a look to see if it can be sorted out. If there's not light, go for "it's in limp mode i think but can't be sure".

VT leads, whatever they are. Not too bad price wise, considering that I'd have to had driven home otherwise misfiring and spent the next few days plodding along at half-pace. From memory probably around the £65 mark.

only problem is the cheaper ones dont show enough detail. what you want to know is not only the codes but when, at what revs> intermittant or not? etc.

you get what you pay for!

sure thing....but for one of the spec you are refering to is it not going to be out of the reach financially (and in my case practically lol) of the humble tinkerer??

does what it says on the tin, reads the codes then it cycles them through them 5 times then removes it (worth its weight in gold to me because it not only does volvo does most petrols after 2001 (obd eobd protocols)not sure about older volvos but if there obd2 compliant should be no problem

here you go (14 day money back) use it.send it back if your to tight to keep it

Not sure how OBDII compat 850s are, mine wasn't happy with my friend's OBD software for his Mazda. I'll be watching this thread to see if it works out OK!

anybody fancy contributing to a 'good' one (you get what you pay for...)?

I'd be happy to put in £x for use of it when i needed it - would be simple for people to request it or run it via a calendar????

maybe this could be something for the membership Justin? buy one with the subs then members get to book it out?

good idea? :blahblah:

I bought this setup a year or so ago when I owned a Ford Scorpio (PWM interface but bought the combo for future use) and it has proven excellent. Tells you pretty much everything a dealer would be able to tell you (after charging you £60 an hour) - http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_STNCOMB.html

Reads codes, resets service lights, allows you to watch fuel trims, oxygen sensor switching etc in real time - very handy.

I purchased Digimoto software at the same time - http://www.digimoto.com - which has loads of cool features but ther are plenty of other really good OBDII programs I have downloaded as well that were FREE and very good as well.

I am more than happy to let anyone come over and have their codes read or reset - I am in Somerset in the South-West (don't seem to be many members in this neck of the woods).

mine arrived today and i have learnt since ordering that whilst my 96 855 is obdII compatible it is not fully compatible.....maybe vt can explain that one....needless to say it does not work but i am not too disheartened, cos it will work on 1999 onwards...maybe in 2009 when i can afford one it will be of use...lol :troutslap

My understanding on obd 2 on 850s is that although they have an obd 2 socket they are not true obd 2. The readers that you can buy just read the flash codes as before when they were fitted with the under-bonnet fly wire system. We have just bought a new £4000 diagnostic scanner which will read all makes and models of car except, you've guesses it 96' to 2000' (pre-me7) Volvos.........BUGGER ! (I seem to remember a thread which showed you how to read the flash codes using an LED and a simple circuit pushed into a few of the on th OBD 2 socket)

Read and reset the codes for free. You need wire and a multimeter. link: http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?t=8307
