I got some roofbars off eBay, not the moulded ones but clip ons, so I was thinking about painting them. My housemate suggested the RS4 chromed wingmirrors theme, so I spent this morning gimping them on. ("gimp" is a free photoshop clone).

If I do it, i'll be using cheap and cheerful silver spray!

(apologies for the dodgy work, I only had the original cameraphone listing off eBay to work from)

I'd only chrome them if you're getting them done professionally and even then I'd think twice. DIY silver spray paint will look crap IMHO.

The other alternative is to get them body coloured by a paint shop.

If you must fit them, leave them the original colour. I'm of the opinion that a little chrome is a good thing, but it's very easy for it to fall into the category of bad taste. Slapping a hideous whale mouth on the front of a car and chroming it...VAG hiring American designers now?

Plus if you're using the roof bars properly, I'd hate to guess how long the chrome would last before showing signs of wear.

Instead of doing them yourself what about powder coating them with sparkle silver ( this is teh colour i get silver wheels refurbed with and it looks ace without being bling ) and getting the mirror covers done professionally in metallic silver basecoat and laquer....could look pretty good pzorb!!!

some wood panelling down the side instead of the plastic strips may enhance the image as well!

OK well I can deal with primers and coats of laquer, but power coating presumably is a professional job - any ideas for cost?

Keep the opinions coming, looks like it's only me who likes the photoshopping lol
