I'm thinking of purchasing one of these in order to try and lower my fuel costs a bit.

Can someone give me some pointers on what they are like to own (known niggles and problems etc) and what to look for when buying a used example (150k miles).

Thanks in advance,
Matt.

Usual 850 niggles for the car, but the engine is an Audi unit so would be probably easier for reliability research to look at the Audi forums for cars with the same engines.

I like these too, but the fuel consumption won't be that brilliant compared with common-rail diesel engines. Most people report an average of around 35-40mpg tops with the 850 TDi.

Thanks for the pointers
I know that they will not return mpg of newer diesels, particularly the D5's (I can only dream of owning one of these! LOL) but 35-40 is pretty good IMO.

I'll have a google for Audi forums...

As far as I can find, the good old Audi unit seems very reliable indeed. This coupled with the Volvo chassis, should make for a good motor.

Is the service interval any different on the Diesel models?
