Guys

Since the recent trend of service item threads . . .

What cooland does eveyone use/recommend ?

I'm flushing my system out for it's 100k b'day.

Going for an RO water, Volvo coolant and Redline water wetter combo.

Are there any decent premixed options out there ?

Any comments ?

Thanks

As long as you ain't going racing lol use de-ionized/distilled water and Volvo coolant 50/50 mix.

RO is medical grade, which I can get a ready supply from thankfully - use that in my water injection as well !

Thanks for the quick replies !

Hi Saffron C70,

How's things?

Any coolant is fine as long as it's mixed correctly - usually 50/50.

I got a big gallon sized thing from Costco - I think it's Castrol stuff but is more than likely exactly the same as the cheap stuff you can get from Partco and other factors.

Just make sure it's Ethylene Glycol. If it ain't (I can't remember the name of the other stuff) then you need to flush the system extensively before filling as I believe the two aren't compatible and can attack the aluminium engine.

Most collants are EG though I think.

I really rate Redline's water wetter stuff. Made a big difference to the race car, so I've used it in the T5 too. To be honest, not noticed any great difference, but it doesn't get to spend anything like as much time on full throttle!! Never overheats towing things in summer though.

It's not a boiling point thing, it's a surface tension reducer. have a look at http://www.redlineoil.com/products_coolant.asp then click on demo. Brace yourselves for an American "Shopping Channel" style voice over though!
