What speed should a V70 T5 1999 idle at and should the idle stay constant and not change up and down and if so what could cause this problem. I hope that makes sense.

Try turning off the aircon .Is it a big hunt in the revs if so could be the maf sensor or if you are really unlucky the etm

Should be stable at 900 rpm once warm (cold start upto 1100 rpm, then drop to 1000 after 1-2 mins). Yes the Air con kicking in will drop the revs a little then it'll come back up straight away. Heated mirrors and windows will drop the revs again if switched on, but not by much and again should stabilise at 900rpm. If it's hunting, ie up and down constantly, or missfiring, then could be any number of things. Start with the simple things, plugs, leads, dizzy cap, then on to the more difficult, eg ETM

Cheers & hope you get it sorted

I had an intermittent high idle issue with mine when I first got it. Turned out to be crap in the connector on the idle control valve. Quick blast of carb cleaner up the contacts and the problem went away.
