radiator fan running

when i turn the ignition on from cold the rad fan starts up for a few minutes. at the same time the temp gauge does up half way till the fan stops then it drops again. anyone any ideas? surely this isnt normal? its an 850

sounds like a dodgy thermostat?

Unlikely to be the thermostat if it does it from cold??? Coolant temp. sensor or poor connection to same?

I would check the connections first after all it doesn't cost anything.

defo the thermostat.
car will have fault 123 logged. Ect sensor.
we have had 6 v70's all with this problem.
it is not obvious until the 'stat finally sticks fully open.

Yeah happened to me, fan on constantly and running for ages after turning the engine off too, killed ma battery a few times, Think ma T/stat was around £8 from local motor factors

Cheapest option to iliminate the problem anyway
