Had a look to find some relays today. Unscrewed the cover above the pedals, and slid in upsidedown to have a gander - but you've got to be kidding me! The relays are right at the very back corner of the space, above the steering column and shrouded in other wiring & typically the one I'm after is only just visible without some sort of fiber-optic piles examination equipment! :wtf:

Anyone done this before? (relays, not piles) What's the easiest way to remove them? (relays, not piles!). I could take off the dash, but then that's not something I'm willing to do given the freezing temperatures outside that would numb my bits faster than the whole john major edwina curry affair <shudders>

Cheers for the info (relays, not piles!! Maybe put that in another thread, lots of oldies on here anyway :saythat: :hidesbehi JOKE)

PS If you're wondering, it's to try and resolve the headlight dimdip issue.

Mate, been there (relays not piles)

You have to stand on your head and get stuck in :( (relays not piles)

Tried to fit the VAG wiper relay and had to gave up and admit defeat. Got my Volvo independant to do it whilst he serviced it.

Can you go down from above, through the fuse box area....?

Just a thought!

Are you sure that you cannot lift the whole thing up into the engine bay after undoing a few screws around the fuse box? I seem to remember doing this and (to my amazment), it all went back together quite smoothly.

I'd definitely prefer lifting it all out, it beats looking like I'm doing some crazy dogging on my drive!

Before i zoom off to unscrew it all, do other people find lifting the lot out easier? If it doesn't go back in happily I won't have a backup car to use (otherone's failed it's MOT)

Being able to work whilst stood on your head and having long fingers helps (PILES Not RELAYS!)
A head torch also helps (RELAYS Not PILES!)
PS - If Piles are the main problem there is a heated seat thread running

:slap: You get to the relays from above. Take fuse box cover off and undo a few screws then lift em out.....

I had a gander at this area last week. I'm trying to tap into the speaker wire running to the front door. It's a nightmare! Although I can identify the correct wires by sight, actually getting a crimp on them is something else! I hate in car wiring looms!

OK Here's what I've done so far (click to enlarge):

First, disconnect the battery (required? No harm - btw that's *not* touching the body)

Then remove the fuse lid and unscrew the junction box's 4 torx screws

**So now, do I remove this too? The relays I want are under it!

Will it come right out or do I need to unclip things first etc? Being very cautious because my other car's in the garage until Monday
Cheers!

To make a point..............that earth does not matter if it touches the body, its an earth!!!
Just wedge it down the side of the battery so it cant ping up onto post.

i think you have to remove some of the relays and there's not many screws iirc just watch you don't pull the wires from the bottom of the fuseboard!

any details for the vag wiper relay? price, part no, model or what ever please?
