Poor throttle response S40 2.0 S non turbo

Hi all. I have recently bought my first Volvo after many false starts. It looked a bargain but am finding out it is not the diamond in the rough I hoped it was. It is a 52 plate S40 2.0 S non turbo and I have already had to replace Vvt pulley, timing belt, water pump and tensioners. The front brakes are next for my attention. One thing I am finding is that the throttle response is terrible. I know I should have gone for the T4 but I didn't. Any suggestions would be greatly received. Clean throttle body, new throttle position sensor?

Was the throttle response better before you did all the timing/vvt..? if so, is the VVT timing/setup correct....??

Was the throttle response better before you did all the timing/vvt..? if so, is the VVT timing/setup correct....??Not sure really before as had to have it done pretty much as soon as I bought it. It ticks over nicely and it seems to be struggling under load is going up a hill. As it's a non turbo none of the tuning places will touch it as it can't be remapped or rechipped.
