Hello all,

Does anyone have a picture of the 850 with the black or chrome mesh grill fitted? Seen these on partsforvolvosonline.com and quite like the idea but want to make sure they don't look a bit too..........errrm.........rubbish.

Cheers!

Thought about making the current grill black? We have this on my dads T5 if you want to come over and see it!

IMHO the mesh "sports" grilles look a little :pants: but most people will dissagree with me!

I agree they can look pants without the slash, but with the slash they look miles better than standard.

Check out the photos from Wobblys bbq earlier this year there are a few there.

Personally speaking I think blacking out your current grille (see pics of my old 850) is the best mod. The "sports" version makes the grille look quite small and doesn't suit the front end.

I agree in general with the anti-mesh sentiments, but I actually rather like the look of IPD's mesh grille (it's about their only product I like on these cars). I'll dig up some pictures later of them.

Originally rayanna had a standard grill.
Then I had a mesh one - and added an R badge
http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/T5_Sunset/NS_Front.jpg

but that looked a bit bare so I bought a slash for a new S40
http://www.bigredvolvos.co.uk/images/rayannaJan2005/front.jpg

But when she was sold I put an orignal grill back on. I am undecided.

Depends on the colour of the car too.

I messed about with mine on a photoshop type program first. Couldn't decide on this
http://images5.theimagehosting.com/bodycolourandbadgeforum.jpg (http://www.theimagehosting.com)

or this
http://images5.theimagehosting.com/allbodycolourandbadgeforum.jpg (http://www.theimagehosting.com)
went with the latter eventually. As wobbly says it depends on the colour, if yours is Met Purple, a purple frame with a Graphite or mat black middle might look nice.

Cheers for all the pictures and opinions, I remain undecided! My T5 is dark metallic purple with lower suspension and tinted windows (all factory Volvo extras I hasten to add!) so I thought the black mesh grill might add to the cars appearance but am unsure. I am leaning toward the method of using the original grill but blacking out the chrome surround and grill and leaving the Volvo slash. I think I might buy a standard grill off eBay and do that so I can always put the original back on if I don’t like it. With regards to the mesh grill £80 is a bit much to cough up for something that I’m not sure I’m going to like!

Moppy i think you're possibly the only girl in the country that likes Volvo estates.

I found it a real b!tch to get girls to overcome the "volvo estate old man" thing, but as soon as I got them inside the car all was fine and dandy!

I'm obviously one of the only ones with taste then!! The 850 estate is damn sexy!

I wont ask what you did to persuade them into your car ;) LMSO!

i think were too late moppy..ive just seen a matt black nova, with a sticker saying work in progress on it...driven by kevin and perry...with the biggest exhaust ive seen this side of tokyo.
But i think they must have got both brain cells confused,as it wasnt the grill that was black,it was the entire car...words can not explain....@#$%%^ :slap:

I don't mind the mesh grilles, if executed properly (the look of the car needs to match the added aggressiveness provided by the grille).

Here is an IPD grille originally silver that I painted the center for Carson:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2049000-2049999/2049334_12_full.jpg

Here is the standard one:

Since the latter in chrome is now down to about 20 pounds here on ebay, I've ordered one for experimentation (Jaguar woven mesh planned) and will post pics soon.

The IPD grilles are a little different to the mesh ones over here. The ones we get make the grille area look a little small which just doesn't do that big boxy front end justice. The IPD grilles look great tho!

I just couldn't resist for $38 new on ebay. Still not sure which of the 3 (stock black with S40 badge, Mercedes E55, or this) I like best:

Hey, awesome new look Jermey! I'm torn between the Merc grille you were running and this new one... both have a unique appeal.

That being said, could you resize that top pic down a wee bit? It's giving my browser a conniption fit.

Hi,

I have fitted a black wire mesh with chrome surround. It looks a bit 'odd' without the Volvo slash or badge so I took the centre part off of an old grill and attached it to the centre of the wire grill - fills in the space and makes it look a bit 'different.' However, these mesh grills will not work with your existing pull opener through the grill and a modification is supplied, which frankly I was unable to make work and is, in my opinion, of poor design and functionality - any query to the supplier is useless - they don't have a clue. An extended bit of welding rod is my 'pull-opener.'

I have pic of my car with grill and if you get in touch I'll email it to you as the image is to large for this site.

If you buy one and make their mod work - do let me know - but apart from that the grill is an easy fit.

Good luck!

Really, I like the pull design and the swap took less than 10 minutes for me, even with my 3 year old screaming at me the whole time.

Who made the grille you're using? Just curious.

to be honest the volvo is one oif the only cars where i prefer the fundemental design of the stock item - the slash and badge :)

the modified pull is a bit of a pain to fit. took me a while to figure it out and even when i got it fitted, i had to bodge i so it worked.
