By all means don't be put off by ex-police cars, but a driving school one will have been pushed to the limit more than ex-traffic ones.
We used a T5 for "advanced" driver training which involves a lot of hard driving on the road and is a fitting testament to every aspect of their performance.
Having said that they are meticulously maintained, no expense spared and serviced every 6k.
If there was even the slightest inkling of a problem with absoultely anything on the car it was replaced, courteousy of the taxpayer.
They are also inspected before every shift or drive.
I know of an ex job V70 T5 which has done 350k and is still going strong.
I'm not ex-traffic (I'm proud to say).
It was driving T5's at work which started my love affair with them..
The majority of ex-job T5 estates spend 90% of the time pootling along at 69.9 mph in the left-most lane. You've all seen 'em.

:welcome: I hear you on the ex-plod - but I have seen that it can be quite a lottery unless you are certain of the source and know what to look for.

Yeah I know the ones you mean....you are normally passing them at warp speed kicking yourself not not seeing him earlier!! :slap: LOL

I am not convinced that the test cars have been 'ragged' as much as traffic. You say the test cars are thrashed, thus putting strain on various mechanical components, but you have seen all the police camera stuff, where they go off roading, and up kerbs etc etc. I think that sort of knocking around has to be worse than simply driving hard....

Thanks for the welcome.
The ex-job ones are normally boring white ones with low spec and un-sightly holes in very visible places, as we all know.
We had a 850 T5 "colour car" (unmarked) in Olive which was my absolute favourite and I'd have loved to have got hold of that car when it was sold.
Prices of the Ex-job cars are normally lower to reflect their mediocrity and high mileage as you know, I view every white one as ex-plod, as a yardstick, but know of people who use them without a single problem.
Most cops treat the cars with respect and drive around at high speed only when absolutely necessary, It's exhausting at the best of times on our roads.
Advanced Police drivers are generally exceptional drivers who know how to treat cars well, and the T5's are revered.
All ex-job cars will have a comprehensive history, if they don't, avoid 'em.
PS We had one that did 151 mph with 4 fat sweaty coppers in it, the "standard" car's speedo was 15mph out.

Murphy, sorry, your post went on as I was writing my last.
I hear what you are saying, but these "police camera action" things are not a true reflection of a car's life, but who'd watch a cop program without an exciting car chase?
I can tell you that if you break a Police car going off road after a nicked Metro you will have a lot of explaining to do, you can be banned from driving and the paperwork will kill you. Rightly so.
Police drivers have discretion when pursuing and really don't take ludicrous risks, continuation of a pursuit has to be proportionate to the offence and are often called off by the Control room.
However if any such damage does occur, the car will be repaired to the highest concievable standard.
Every car is, as I have said, inspected every 24 hours and if there is damage found there follows an enquiry that makes the Spanish Inquisition look like an interview with David Frost.
All I'm saying is that the School cars are driven around at high speed most of the time for advanced training purposes, that is their raison de etre.
That shouldn't put you off though as I said in my first post.

I had to sell her last year to pay for my Divorce. I'm after a new one as we speak, ideally an estate for the dogs, hence how I discovered the forum.
I'll be watching the for sale forum with intense interest.
Cheers.
I miss the car more than the house...

That car should be on the Volvo Owners club high miler list, he's a member & keeps going on and on about it.
We don't invite him around for dinner much anymore...
He's even got a badge or something for the front grille like a silver medal for driving a performance car at 50mph everywhere and changing the oil every 5k.
I know he bought it at over 200k
I'd rather have the voucher.

My T5 is ex-driver training and in the 4 years i've had it the only expense has been a wheel bearing and generous helping of front tyres. As it was a local (to me) car i often get comments from local officers, one remark was that its previous driver spent more time polishing it than driving it. The main thing i learned was that they really do love the T5's and the saloons more than the estates.

I have a P/97 S70R for sale if anyone is interested. Its silver, immaculate, all the kit, Climate, sunroof, etc, recently refurbed graphite wheels. (They were silver..I wanted graphite!) Its a stunner and have to sell it as I am getting a motorbike to get to work. (Work car park full, £5 a day to park!!)
previously owned an R reg V70T5 and a W reg V70T5 (hated it..tooo refined!) and this is my favourite.
At the mo I have loads of xtras fitted that I will remove or possibly negotiate on (Sat Nav, DVD etc)

I have previously asked for an idea of price and I am open to SENSIBLE offers.
The car is my life (and work...sadly!) and I am loathed to sell it but have to be practical (how sad is that!) When I bought it the guy said it had been chipped to 300bhp. I wasn't sure if I believed him but I can say it is so much more powerful than the T5 I had so it could be true. It could do with going on a rolling road. Truth is I'm not that fussed...just love the car

Thought I found it but it said the image was too large. I took the pics on a digital SLR so I am assuming that takes up to much bytes. Not sure what to do now.................
