Well took the plunge a few weeks back and bought an XC90 D5 auto, must say what a lovely car to drive, gets along nicely and is comfy as anything, sound system is amazing and all the toys you could want. First job was get a towbar fitted as this one never had one fitted, which I was happy about as this meant less stress on the transmission etc during it's previous years, all duly installed and wired by me, as Volvo wanted a kidney and half a liver to pay them to supply and fit it....lol. She has just performed her first trailer duties and bought a 854 t-5 back from Mansfield to Mid Wales for breaking up, for Olive to have her new engine and duly disposed of the shell and a corsa I was scrapping the following day, she'd done well towing a heavy Ivor Williams car transporter (40 mpg empty) grossing approx 4.75 ton in total with the T-5 on at 28 mpg, obviously it's bloody hilly around me which did knock the mpg at this end a fair bit and slow her up some what, but I can live with that as she was bought as an all-rounder and towing is not her main job, which is really lugging 4 sprockers, kids and grand kids about in the high level of comfort and safety that we have come to expect from our Volvo's.

Yep...I wanted black and fancy having the headlining done in black, but that then leads to what to do to all the other bits

but to rub salt into the wounds, it could even power itself when I went to view and the garage then fitted a brand new alternator and battery......lucky me

Yeah, as soon as the vendor had my money, they just washed their hands of it.
Trouble with buying a car 200 miles away from home - they know you're not going to bring it back.

Black headlining is a nice idea, but I like the light and airy feel of the '90, not sure how the black would effect that.

Are you gonna be using it to drag the 850 to York?

that scrutineer was mental, it's only a drag race in normal cars, if it could do it in under 9secs then yes I could understand his pickiness.....:(

think you could be right there......he'd might as well convert it whilst he has half the bits removed from the front end and turning the p/s rack around may give him the clearance needed to get the damn alternator out....lol

Buy mine if you want...

I would have loved a V8 but it's going on daily duties and can't justify twice the tax and the extra fuel it would drink......but it would sound lovely though

yes it certainly is and lovely spot, as you know it's not far for me. The diesel is fine for me and pottering about in the auto is great and it really does get along when I'm in a hurry. Any faster than that required, I'll then take a T-5R.

Steve Sideways could always sell you a nice v8 with a newly fitted recon alternator, if he gets it finished this weekend.....;)

Quicker than you'd think, especially if it's wet. Ours goes well being 185 e4, mapped, no cat, no dpf and no egr.

Even with all the miles on it nicci would rather drive it than her car, wish I'd spent more on it rather than a cheap car.

If it behaves itself, then I think there will always be room in my fleet for one, absolutely love it and it's such effortless motoring, only a 163hp but did well towing a heavy car transporter with an 854 t-5 on. Got it first parking fine on that run too.......grrrr

BMW don't actually make the box though and, to be fair, I seriously doubt that the automatic gearbox that volvo were using in 2005 would be able to deal with 412lb/ft of torque either ;)

Polestar puts out 380lbs (although a couple of reviews on Dyno showed 405lbs) which is a 2005 designed box.

Ian has a tuned one that's still ok on std box, but tbh I'm guessing not too much more to be had.

Rebuild and torque converter for around £2700, new box is about 6k.
It's funny really, because of my job i know roughly how much a new box is worth at cost, and they are nowhere near that much. The robbing gits.

Well despite some mixed weather last weekend the Ocean Race was drawn to the sea again for a little spur of the moment camping trip to the Welsh coast, she swallowed the load with ease when I packed far too much stuff for the one night, most of which I didn't use and needn't of taken in the first place. The only issue we had was that I forgot one set of poles for the tent which were still on the bench awaiting repair after last years York meet.....doh!.....we got by with out them, the tent just flapped a bit in the wind....lol
